Want To Help Demolish The Cartels ?
« on: June 15, 2005, 12:41:39 am »
Folks, you have in your possesion something the cartel cannot steal from you and licence it back at inflated prices, "what is that ? " I hear you ask.

Your creativity and time, thats all that is needed to take part in a great free (and for free) television style broadcasting effort , in which you  provide creative content and all the content then belongs all, under a GPL style open copyright licence, owned by no one and free forever.

Sounds good huh ? get over to here if you have some talent to show off and maybe you,ll be on a channel sooner than you expect.  :D

Dont let the Cartel continue to dictate their worn out content formulas to us, lets all build a new future, where greed is not the prime focus for making any creative effort.

Following on from my last post there is an interview here for folks to read the goals and expectations of the project leaders.

http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20050615_141402.html

Quote
Wiley believes individuals have been locked out of mainstream media distribution, especially independent artists, videographers, and musicians who are looking to enhance their visibility, and have in his view, actually become paranoid of any commercial entity that would seek to help them achieve that goal. "If we start looking for funding and profit," added Wiley, "we're going to spend half of our time looking for more funding and more profit. I think that's going to hamper our particular goals of starting an independent media revolution on the Internet. We feel that changing the way that media distribution works is a sufficient goal. If we can achieve our goal, that's good."

That is the goal folks, why should we all just  follow like sheep and be milked like cows,

We are all collectively, more than adequately skilled in providing entertainment for ourselves, why should some greedy rights managers get a cut for doing nothing.

For those who want to see a demonstration of an excellent free online series that comes out once a month look here

http://www.welcometothescene.com/characters.html

The show is called "The Scene" and its based on a "release"  group (a group of folks who battle to be first to deliver movies, programs etc to the internet ) using their IRC trading room as a background.

Theres nine episodes so far, and I have viewed them all, they are great  :)
You are also free to distribute them and share them on any p2p system.

I think this proves its not impossible to get together and make content, forget the multi-million dollar costs the industry says it has to spend on scratching its nose.

i hope they are paying themselves for the right to distribute the videos, it seems politicians think you can only distribute copyrighted files if you pay royalties... those morons

Ever wonder why Hollywood spends tens of millions of dollars on the production of a movie on the hopes that they will get all that and more back in returns from your pocket?

Have a look at this little jewel and you will have your answer...

New Film Star Wars: Revelations

Quote from Director Shane Felux:
Quote
We wanted to create a film to be enjoyed by fans around the world. Revelations was also created to give artisans and craftsmen the chance to showcase their work, allow all those involved a chance to live the dream, and maybe - just maybe - open the eyes in the industry as to what can be done with a small budget, dedicated people, and undiscovered talent.

The makers have made this film free to download to anyone.  The costs of the film where $20,000 to make and has reached such popularity that its difficult to keep a host that can supply the bandwidth for the demand.

He has challenged the big Studio Cartel's in Hollywood saying he could take a normally, $30 million dollar production and get just as good results with a budget of $3 million.

So, the answer to the question seems clear once again, its only about GREED...

Give this a look and share it with all your friends...

This looks like a better deal for folks and the artist  :)

John Buckman does not consider himself a revolutionary.
Splitting all album and licensing sales with musicians 50-50, letting artists maintain the rights to their music, and allowing customers to hear an entire album before purchasing it seemed perfectly sane to Magnatune's founder and chief executive.
Magnatune's musician- and consumer-friendly policies are rare, according to Buckman, and his actions at his Berkeley-based online record label have forced the Recording Industry Association of America to take notice

It sounds a bit funny saying to the artist we will go halves on it, but half of what they are getting is 4 times the amount they would get from the Cartel and this way they own all their rights still for future earnings  8)
Also if you read the small print above, you can sample the tracks before you purchase them, using a streaming system, what more could you want  ?
If only the cartel got out of the cycle of greed and treated all sides fairly like the online distributer, artist and ourselves, the consumer.
