is there a way to?
« on: August 05, 2005, 07:11:35 pm »
Hi,

I was just wondering if there was anyway to have winMX show "files that match COMPLETE files."  I know that files that match incomplete ones are usually yellow with the default skin.  Is there any way to make it see that a file matches a complete file that you already have?

Thanks,
Ech

Hi Echo..

Sorry at this time there is no way for WinMX to recognize your complete files in another users shares.

This would mean keeping a huge database of all the different Hash numbers (ID Numbers) WinMX uses to indentify files.

You can see how many different Hash numbers there are for anyone file by doing a search.  Only matching hash numbers will show up as multiple users, something like this...

  • file your looking for.mp3......................................15 users

Meaning those 15 users have a file with one Hash number..
In some cases there are thousands of results....

Hope that helps you understand why its not an option on WinMX..

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but you want MX to show files you already have with a seperate color in the result list? to keep track of files you already have?
I've been looking for that feature, but no, there's no such option in MX :(
However, I have another method to make it a bit easier.  :D

Say if you are looking for different E-books, but aren't sure which E-books you already have. Queue up for all the files you are interested in from the search results. When you're done, go to a chatroom and browse yourself. Look through the list, the files you already have will now show up as yellow or blue. Now you have a list of which files you need to remove from your transfers window.

I know this takes some time if you're downloading many files, especially if the file names aren't the same (look at the file size instead) but that's the easiest way I've found  :?
