World Wide Web Update?
« on: September 30, 2006, 12:43:19 pm »
Hey does anybody know the status on the World Wide Web Update, I mean the one, thats SUPPOSED, TO BE ABLE TO handle, the increased volume of users, on the net. Originally they were, thinking of actually, shutting the whole network down, for a week or two??? Then they decided that, they were going to integrate the new settings??? I know of only 1 WWW2. address, and there doesn't seem to be much significant improvements. Are WE going to see  any improvements, if so when? Does anybody Know?

erm, there is no "World Wide Web Update"... the web is just a service that operates over the Internet, the Internet is basically a load of ISPs all connecting to each other. If a connection between 2 ISPs reaches capacity (more often way before it reaches capacity) then those ISPs typically talk to each other and decide to upgrade the speed of that connection - which often means that single link going offline for a few hours, which happens all the time and nobody notices (as traffic is just re-routed through other connections)

the only major "Update" is they are currently transitioning the internet from IPv4 (version 4 of the Internet protocol) to IPv6 (version 6) but there will be no "shut down" - the process of transitioning has already started and will continue to happen for at least 10-15 years, during that time both versions will exist at the same time (mostly on the same networks using the same connections) with a series of routers bridging the 2 together to make it completely transparent to users

So, in other words, we will still have to, put up with slow servers, slowness due to heavy traffic, because, more people, are surfing every day. Its getting like the, current water/sewer, problems. EG: more houses being built, but no leaks being mended, just more strain on a system already, struggling to cope! Because not enough people complain, we are stuck with the rubbish.

no, as demand increases connection speeds increase - there is no capacity on the Internet, there are only capacities of specific connections, when that specific connection reaches capacity it is upgraded, the Internet doesn't have a global limit to how much traffic it can take

if you open up a command prompt and type in "tracert www.google.com" then it will give you a list of the route taken between your computer and that google web server (in googles case it will be one of their closer ones as they have many), each of the entries on that list s listing a specific router in between you and google, and there is a maximum data rate between each one, if one of those connections reaches capacity then that connection will be upgraded to handle it.

if you then do "tracert www.winmxworld.com" then you will see a different set of routers listed between your computer and this website, again the same thing each of those connections has a capacity, but if one of those connections reaches capacity then that single connection gets upgraded to handle more traffic.

You should notice that the routes to both of those are completely different (apart from both starting with your ISP of course - as it is where your computer is connected to) as they go to different places, traffic doesn't flow through any central place so there is no limitation to how much traffic can be passed across the Internet, only a limit to how much can go from one ISP to another - and that can easily be upgraded by those ISPs as required (say the traffic between AOL and Cogent they had a capacity of 10GBit, then if they noticed they were using more than 5GBit of it they would probably start thinking about upgrading it so that traffic between those 2 ISPs doesn't near capacity and start to cause delays)

as more users are online, there are also more websites for them to visit, so their traffic is spread out more, more ISPs handling that traffic, and connections between the major ISPs will simply be upgraded to take any additional traffic as required

If I want to trace, y go 2 google or dos when I've got McAffee Firewall, which traces events? My point is BOTH UPLOADS AND DOWNLOADS ARE STILL VERY SLOW.  IN SOME CASES I WAS BETTER OFF WHEN I HAD 56K DIAL UP, IT IS THAT BAD! Not only that, I am aware that, certain servers only send out at a certain speed anyway, due to their limits. 2 How can more websites open, if people are only going to specific websites anyway?
