Xmas Site Logo Competition
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:37:56 pm »
Folks its that time of year again where we change the logo of the site to reflect the fact that spirit of xmas is upon us.

Following on from last years logo made by Diablo , I thought perhaps some of you may wish to have a go at making us something.
If you have some time please enter your logo as an attachment here and we will vote on it for a winner  8)

I will be entering something myself, but all entries will be judged on merit and the best will be selected by an independent judge.

Hope to see some creativity from you all  :D

Maybe making the pic available as a jpg would make life abit easyer; available for download from this thread as png is abit of a pain in the bum, ;-)

Okay lets talk about that for a sec.

The current logo is .png format.  This can be worked with easily in paint and most Image programs.  Jpg often looses color and definition if changed to png format or if resized even for that matter.. so I think if its possible that you would best save these in either .bmp  or .png.

Im sure jpg could be used also but its a bit of a sloppy format when working with images not photos.. but any format is uploadable here.  Let me upload the current one for yall as an attachment tho.. as i think that's what Tiny is asking for also.

Again this is my personal preference when working on logos or banners.. but you know from this below what size and dimensions etc.. and changing a jpg  to fit is definitely harder to do.

The main thing is to have some fun.. if jpg is all you can use.. upload that .. no worries.

jpeg is a lossy format, it loses quality and looks horrible just by saving, you don't need to do any converting or resizing to make it look bad, it does that itself during the save process... that's why you never ever see websites using jpeg for anything (except photos, which is what jpeg is designed for)

<rant>...i just wish that some people would stop thinking "oh jpeg makes my photos smaller, so i'll use it for everything" and sending screen shots etc in jpeg instead of the correct PNG (or hell even GIF) which looks much better and is often smaller... btw anyone who has ever sent me a screen shot in jpeg knows very well how i feel about them, and i normally tell them to do it again using the correct format because i can't read anything on it</rant>

I must say the efforts so far are rather good , lets see some more though folks,  I shall name the judge tomorrow and the contest will close 12 hours after that, I hope this gives you all enough time to make an entry, unlike KM I shall post my simple design even though it isnt much to look at *hint hint*

Ok folks the Judge has been selected and is ..... *roll of drums*

Sparkle

Sparkle is of course the host of the "Fish Bowl Lounge" room, cheers Sparkle  8)

Due to a late rush of promised entries we have been asked to extend the time to the end of the week, the judge will make the decision then and the winners logo will take its place in place of the standard one  :D

PS: please try not to animate the logos as it may slow the whole page loading process down, thanks folks  :)

I doubt 44.18 KB will hardly slow page loading down, since most browsers load the page first, then pictures.
