Post the problem here Krb , Ill look into maybe finding a permanent home for this type of query after seeing what the problem is, as you know we try to help all winmx world members but are targetting the winmx network primarily, so it may never have its own area  :)

Anyway post away and as you know I,ll get back to you as fast as I can, for those folks that never visit the room, Krb is one of our major helpers  8)
Hopefully we can return the favour Krb  :D

I've got a problem with my display not matter what I try it keeps setting itself back to 640x480 16 color, i've tryed it in safe mode, but still nothing, puter is having bad freezing winmx will open but freezing is so bad it won't do anything.  display switched when I did a virus scan but before I did it I disable system restore soon I hit ok the display icons went large, did the scan did'nt find anything, put system restore back and I hav'nt been able to get the display to change out of those numbers since.  before that I ran registry mech. not sure if that has something to do with this. It found a few problems and I fixed them, I least I think so, it may have fixed me instead.

My first advice is to reload the driver for the video card, this will re install any corrupted information that may be in the registry.

Let me know any problems  :)

It should allow connections to either Mamo, if you are having drastic problems use the host file type of replacement , we want you on the WPN and happy  :D

http://www.vladd44.com/mx/peercaches.php

Remeber that you will need to be running peer guardian using this system and adding the updated list we have

https://www.winmxworld.com/files/block_list.txt

Adding those is vital to protect the WPN .

I can't share files.  I can download using a primary connection just fine.
but I can't get past my firewall, and turning of the firewall just locks things up. I'm using Win XP Pro, Zone Alarm Pro, and WINXP 3.53 with the patch. It's not the patch by the way, it's been doing it since I installed Zone Alarm a few months ago.

I'm using W98SE upgrade with WinMX v3.53.  I downloaded the hosts zip file, unzipped it and had a simple microsoft file with no file extension.  Before pasting the file in C:\WINDOWS, I checked foe the existing HOSTS file and the only files I found were HOSTS.SAM and LMHOSTS.SAM.  I pasted the file under C:\WINDOWS anyway and renamed the file with all caps rather than the lower case, rebooted the PC and tried to get online but failed the first day.  The second day I got online with no trouble and have been online at various times since.  Sometimes I get online immediately and sometimes I have to wait 5 min. or so.

Do I need to download this new *.exe file when it becomes available for W98SE users.  Am I hurting our system by using this early patch from above.

  Please advise.

Thank all for their help with WinMX.

The best advise for now is to stay with what you have, it working fine, there is no danger in using it.

As soon as KM has the *.dll file working for 98 users I would suggest that as its also protecting us from the riaa and company.  Until then I suggest using either Peerguardian or even better Sherwood.

Can't connect must find new home
« Reply #13 on: October 04, 2005, 11:45:12 pm »
I have enjoyed my time while on WinMX, however, I've tried everything and can't connect.  Patches, reinstalling and flushing and so I am now forced to leave and find a home elsewhere, probably horrible usenet groups.

Farewell

The error you recieved from WinMX is because our patch has a built in block list in it.  When this site (the place the block lists comes from) was down the .dll coudnt update and caused an error.

There should be no settings.dat file on your desk top and that may be a short cut created by accident.   I sugest deleting the setting.dat file or shortcut from your desk top and leave the ones in MX folder as they are..
