we're still here.. i dont know how long for.. we have also set up a room on Filetopia.org called "movie temple" so that if it comes to it.. and we do lose our MX room, then we can still talk to the ppl we have come to know and treat as family.

I have been on WinMX for the past couple of years every day.. and use it for chatting more than downloading, i have to admit, but i have grown used to talking to the same ppl and feel very helpless, and angry that they are taking that away from us, and there is nothing we can do. This has totally shaken and upset alot of ppl. The reaction has been the same wherever u look, everyone is absolutely gutted.

Fuck the RIAA.. we will remain in our room until the end.. and we will carry on .. just in a different place.. so they havent really gained much.. have they.. except made us more determined.

This is absolutely horrible news! I have so many incompletes and you can't just stick WinMX incompletes into filetopia to complete due to different coding. What we can do is finish our incompletes and share on nap servers. But, NAP servers are mainly small and congested and hard to get in because they are hosted on people's personal computers. So, the solution now is for those of you with fat pipes and lots of memory to create your own NAP server and post the .wsx or I.P. file here. People on dial-up can't host one but you cable guys and T3 guys sure can. The only way to keep file sharing alive on WinMX now is thru NAP servers. If anyone has a link to a NAP tutorial please post it.

okay not to worry all, a few of us have gotten together and we have opened a series of linked OpenNap servers, at current what were trying to do is ruibuild the population, and get it going again, following the links in the link www.winmxunlimited.net/opennapserver.html. but instead of connecting to that server, as some people have complained about computers freezing, and lagging, try a few of the following network Addresses

I started using winmx back when there was just 300 or so rooms. It was a nice place to start a chatroom. Times did change though and there were to many idiots hacking down rooms and such. Five years ago We went openap to get away from the morons and that turned out to be a good thing lol. now all the peer peeps are running around and lost yet we are still strong as ever in openap. Here we share files not trade - some of us gather newest files out from sources like torrents/irc/usenet/ftp's and bring them to openap. If you have friends already registered in some openap servers its prolly time you asked them to get you in. Come to the safety of openap

WinMx has always been crap.
Few version updates, last to introduce multi source downloading, leeches by the swampfull and loads of fake files. Having used it since it was conceived I won't miss it one bit. I remember using it to connect to Napster. It has had its day and won't put up a fight. Move on to more hi-tec clients folks and stop being so obsessed with it!

Sly I think you have mistaken the flavour of winmx , its not just about what files you can get , its the rooms full of friends that people have made, 2400 rooms are dead today, most networks cannot match this figure.

I'm not making enemies, go join AOL if you want to chat. WinMx was for file sharing and it was poor. I just don't get it. Nostalgia is not what's needed right now, this is what filesharing needed, close down the swamped out network so a new vision is created, no I don't have any suggestions but there's so much passion out there that someone will create a better network.
