Thanks Big Storm for posting and yes Dont Give up folks...

But I will tell you that this is one of the rumours that are spreading through the Network rooms.. and unfortunatly is *likely*  untrue..

But i am also hoping  they would just move like the rest of MX is ...

Keep watching we will keep you informed...

unfortunately the servers aren't moving anywhere, unless you would go to several servers located in various different places in the world and close down the peer cache software on them all as well as reconfiguring the DNS servers to give invalid responses then take days to go and set up anything else

the servers are not offline, they are still online and working fine, the peer caches are simply not working on them any more... and the DNS servers running on the 3 used for DNS have been reconfigured to return invalid responses (yes, they are responding, just not with an IP Address)

i have also seen other suggestions about "perhaps something crashed?" and similar, this is just wishful thinking on their part, for multiple servers to all fail in the exact same very specific way at the exact same time is not a coincidence - winmx was never that vulnerable to failure, in fact no failure would have taken it offline (either the peer caches, or web site which was hosted from several of those peer caches - not a single server as some claimed) - the only way winmx could ever fail is if someone deliberately shut down all servers at once

and that is ignoring the fact that if kevin did have server problems and wanted to keep MX alive he could have done so easily... it isn't hard to find a few people willing to host the various components - a couple of the bits could likely even be hosted from a few broadband connections with just 512k upload... but not more than a handful of servers would be needed, and that is easy to get... hell i alone could manage to get more servers than he had - within a few hours maximum...

ridiculous rumours like that don't help the situation, people just need to start moving on, it doesn't help anyone to try sitting there on a dead network

Those bastards!!! I can't believe they shut Winmx down. They thought they had won when they shut down Napster years ago too. Yeah like anyone is going to pay .99 a song and 9.99 an album. Why don't I just go to the store and buy it at that rate? They will never learn that people are always going to be one step ahead of their bs and that file sharing will never stop. Am I supposed to feel bad for Britney Spears because she can't buy another Ferrari for her hobo husband because people out there downloaded her music?? FUCK NO! This people are worse then the god damn gas companies. THey just want to suck every cent out of the consumer. I work my fucking ass off making a living and these people write a two minute song and expect to live like a king. Screw these people!! We shall overcome and Winmx will be back or something else better will just take it's place. They never learn!

Open Nap vs The Peer Network
« Reply #224 on: September 22, 2005, 05:51:49 pm »
I have been a user of Winmx since the early Napster Days....Winmx was an evolution from Audiognome which was a very good alternative to Napster..I always wanted to host my own server ever since the time I saw the words “you may write this someday” as the default topic in a newly created room.   Winmx works as well for chat and file sharing using the open nap servers listed at the site    http://www.Gotnap.com   There has always been a family atmosphere in the 5 years I have been a part of some of the most successful open nap server networks ever.  I founded the Rocksolid network of servers that today still exists within the ZiggyNap network.  I have met in person and started open nap servers with people from South Korea (while teaching English)  to The Netherlands. The time effort and money I have spent on computers, ISP bandwidth and my time has been given without any reimbursement.  The community we have today on the OpenNap networks is alive and strong.  All slavanap servers have the ability to block certain key words that are in accordance with the copyright laws…why should a 1950’s Black and white film I want my kids to see and that I cant find anywhere else be blocked?   I have also shared original bagpipe music with a good friend that recently passed away on the BBB network.  Without Winmx his music and his passion would have never touched so many and so far away.    Many of the networks have been here before the advent of Winmx 2.6 and earlier versions.  We will continue to serve the Winmx community as always…….yours in the cause woody from ziggynap and Rocksolid_America_Network…peace

still open, will remain open as long as people want it

also will open on other networks, I don't mind hosting same room on 2 or 3 networks at once.

lets hope this gets fixed. winmx chat is the best.

WinMX is working great!
« Reply #231 on: September 22, 2005, 08:21:01 pm »
I disconnected the WinMX server network, imported the OpenNap .wsx file list and was immediately on line with 20 rich server networks.  I am finding much richer content and much faster download speeds than I was experiencing on the WinMX server network.  This is not the end - it's a new beginning.  WinMX works great on the OpenNap server networks.  The switch is simple - you'll be much happier on the OpenNap networks.

Get your list here and import it!

http://www.gotnap.com/index.php?loc=client

And DON'T forget to tell the WinMX server to DISCONNECT.  If you leave the WinMX network trying to connect it will just screw up your ability to connect successfully to all the OpenNap servers.

The OpenNap servers are VERY fast and efficient.  The way ahead is clear.  There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for anyone to be upset or sad.
