I'm connected in WinMx, did the update as well. But when I type in a band (I used Duran knowing that a TON of files should show up), it says it's searching but no results ever show up? What's going on with this?

I also have the same problem. What's is also strange is that if I close and open again WinMx and I start a new search, for the first one it works well and a lot of files are find (Not always, but only sometimes....), but if a try to start with another search, no results are showed.

usually no search or poor search results depend on whether your connecting as a primary or secondary.
And whether you have ports set correctly if your primary.

If your using a secondary it could just be that your connecting to bad primaries.

First thing to do is to make sure you have the right patch, this not only filters fakes but also makes sure you connect to other protected filtering primaries.

Welcome to the site.. good point

Search results are UDP and many firewalls see a flood of results as a UDP attack often if this is the case the search results will be very limited rather then non existent, and this is strictly for Primary users. This problem thankfully is rare, its usually the Chat Lists that cause the biggest problem with UDP and firewalls.

Of course if the firewall is not configured properly too, you can get them totally blocked as well and this just usually means configure the firewall correctly.

If you have a router, you'll need to configure it to allow winmx to it's ports so that it can work properly
go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there.
A tutorial will be given there on how to forward ports for winmx there.

Not wise for your novice user to turn off firewalls perhaps dissable windows one thats a pain in the ass, but use a more user friendly one such as sygate etc thats easily configurable perhaps a section on here somewhere on firewalls and security especialy for newbies would be a good idea or perhaps a whole section for total novices as i get so many ppl come in to my room without a clue even on the basics ( hey everyone gotta start somewhere ) would be great if a section dedicated to these ppl was around as most the other topics seem to drift off into more technical terms beyond your average joe
