Connection Wows
« on: January 05, 2007, 08:48:28 pm »
My problem is that I have tried and tried to make a connection but just can't. The strange thing
is I'm in the country of Bahrain and it won't work but back in the states in my house it will.
At home I use a wireless connection, Time Warner Cable and in Bahrain I live in a condo type
building and use a LAN connection with a cable plugged into the wall. It looks like a phone jack
but a little bit bigger.
I've turned off everything having to do with Firewalls I think.
Sure need some help, thanks.

do you mean winmx won't connect at all? or you can't make a primary connection? (if on a LAN behind a NAT router you will be unable to use primary unless you have administrative access over the router... ie. you own the network)

That is correct I'm not able to make any connection in WinMx.
I don't own the network.

did you install a working winmx from www.winmxgroup.com?

if so, try going start > run and typing "cmd" then run "telnet cache0.winmxgroup.com 7950", it should come up with a load of apparent rubbish (it's actually encrypted data) then disconnect

I'm not sure actually where I downloaded from but will do as you request and post shortly.
What should I do after disconnecting ?

I did the suggested action and then disconnected, I opened WinMx again and it just blinks yellow
and says trying to connect but never does.

I downloaded from the site you suggested and during setup it can't
establish a TCP connection so I choose not to. I'm able to do a search
for something but it will not download it.

Its likely that the network is blocking ports but sometimes its possible to pass trough many blockages by using ports 80 or ,81 and 120 or 125 as often these are let through.

Remember that you will have to set these manually in your Incoming TCP and  In/Out UDP in winmx Settings and restart winmx.

You can reset them to 6699 tcp and 6527 udp if things go wrong.
