Media Defender Taking A Beating On Other Networks

Now that the WinMx folks are enjoying a flooder free experience it seems the BitTorrent folks are rushing to put a stop to fake files on their system too.

The MPAA and other anti-piracy watchdogs try to trap people into downloading fake torrents, so they can collect IP addresses, and send copyright infringement letters to ISPs. They hire a company to put up fake copies of popular movies, music albums, and TV series. They even use pirate like filenames such as “Battlestar Galactica S03E07 REPACK DSR XviD-ORENJi” and “Miami Vice[2006]DvDrip[Eng]-aXXo“.

One of the btjunkie admins has found a unique way to identify trackers that host these fake files, which makes it easy to efficiently remove them.

Virtually all the servers that spread these fake files are located in Southern California and Las Vegas. The administrators of these servers follow patterns that make it easy to identify them. The content of the trackers and seed amounts make them stand out. There are more unique characteristics, but we wont reveal all the tricks because they could take counter measures.

It seems they have done some homework and its taken them long enough I must say for such a large community, we had one developer (KM ) who did it himself and his sytem has yet to be defeated  8)

I wish more effort was put into this sort of anti fake initiative for the whole P2P scene and then perhaps Macrovision/media defender would stop trying to be the annoying fleas they are, as most of you know their indiscriminate attacks on users searching for freeware are not only immoral but illegal, in reality these scum drive folks to piracy by denying then access to legal downloads on this network, talk about stupidity

I was logging on just to post this myself. I am glad I checked before creating a duplicate topic!

One of my friends who prefers BitTorrent mentioned having this problem suddenly. He was trying to download a file and it kept locking up on him. I explained that this was probably the problem as I would not put it past them, but I was not certain because I have never used BitTorrent.

The point of my saying this is no matter which side of the fence you are on concerning the free sharing of music or movies, the file that he was trying to download had no such copyright issues! It's a sad day when a company attempts to block files that are 100% legal to redistribute free of charge anywhere on the web.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

Indeed Cobra. their actions seem indiscriminate on our particular network as we found by typing small words like "Free" ," Open" and other words that shouldnt bring up an avalanche of fakes on folks doing a 100% legal search of the network for some 100% legal content.

If I had some spare cash I would take legal action against these denial of service companies, that seems the only language they understand.
