Not sure what has happen.I have used WinMx for over a month.All that I notice has changed is that my shortcut from the desktop went missing.But I was able to open the program in Start/Programs...
Would a systenm restore (winme) have caused this?
I rember there was a patch (or something( that I downloaded when I first installed the program .Might I need to reinstall that?
By the way it is a slow dialup connection.

I would say that its possible a reinstall would be in order here to be safe..

It sounds like something has 'eaten it' although its more likely to be some sort of antivirus that would have done it.. in any case the important part is to get you working again..

I would like you to first go to Add/Remove Programs and delete WinMX completely.
Then go to where your program was installed (default is: C:\Program Files\WinMX) and remove/delete this folder with WInMX off of course.

Then download and reinstall from here:
WinMX Group Downloads Page

Choose the file named: 'Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe' any mirror and reinstall your WinMX from this patched version.

Please be sure to choose your current WinMX version when you install ie: WinMX v3.53 or v3.54 beta 4.

All should be fine after this with a new desktop icon and connecting fine. If not let us know.

thanks.I just want to be sure before I go ahead.I am pretty sure the program is not isted in Add/Remove Programs.As there is an uninstall feature in Start/Programs/WinMx is it just the same to do the uninstall this way?

I guess you don't know that windows regularly cleans up "unused icons" from your desktop. You can get them back by right-clicking on your desktop, selecting "Arrange Icons by" from the first popup menu, then "Run desktop cleanup" from the second one.

It'll give you a list of all your desktop icons, whether hidden or being shown. You can select which ones you want to show and which ones you want to hide.

I'd try this simple procedure before I went crazy with re-installing WinMx.

XP regularly does so, this isn't a "feature" of ME however.... & it's one better turned off in xp as it's astonishingly annoying & also no use whatsoever

I wouldnt wait around too long before reinstalling if i had 'My Connection status stays on amber' tho Gary, if you read the topic.

Normally I would agree with you there are a few ways to get a shortcut back but not as many ways to get your WinMX working again and a clean install is just easier on everyone.

Sorry and yes geordief uninstall that way ...

yes I have reinstalled and the program is now working fine.
I think the shortcut got dragged into an adjacent folder by mistake..As for why thr program itself was causing problems maybe it ws because I reinstalled the WinMe disk a few days ago.........no matter.
