I iunderstand its frustraiting ..

Please keep trying .. make sure your installed as per the instructions for your operating system in the above given link.

If your on xp do the dns flush after any reinstalls of the hosts files

Start > Run > type 'cmd'  then type  'ipconfig /flushdns'

then restart WinMX.

And leave it searching.. some folks have taken hours, some its fast.. sorry

obtained the file OK installed it in the directory etc. started winmx 3.31 and left it overnight trying to connect. No connection.

I wonder is version 3.53 required?

For those of you with Win98 heres what I did.

First find your 'Hosts' file, if it exists. c:\windows. Then cut and paste the zip hosts into it. Not sure if needd or not, but I put each reference to the ip address on a separate line. (I'm thinking if this next server goes down, I will be able to do a 'Find/Replace' easier). The 82.195.155.5 server is dead.

Change the server to 205.238.40.1.

Heres an example:

205.238.40.1 c3522.z1306.winmx.com
205.238.40.1 c3523.z1306.winmx.com

and so on. Do this for each c35... or whatever.

Save your 'Hosts' file. Be sure it has no extension. If it saves it as .txt, rename it to just 'Hosts'. No extension. Reboot machine.

I am currently connected to 6 primaries and 12 secondaries.

Where is the list of IP adresses avaiolable from? As each one dies what is the next one to edit the hosts file with?

Be aware that by default, GOVERNMENT IPs are blocked (keeping out the FBI, CIA, NSA or whomever you're particularly afraid of).  This includes the US Naval Observatory!  Who cares?  Well, if you use one of the popular internet clock updaters (such as Dimension 4) you probably get your time from the TIC or TOCK NNTP servers . . . at the Naval Observatory.  Just FYI

Sorry, that was SNTP not NNTP.  No flames please  :-)

HEY!

Just heard some inportant news.

Bit torrent has finished contractual negotiations with the Chinese Government. They have purchased 10,000 GIGS of storage space on the U-R Dewercs SAT. Meanwhile, a WinMX team from Cal Tech has finished installing a base station on Berkner Island, just inside the Ronne Ice Shelf.

Using the patch which contains only the 205.238.40.1 cache address, I can't establish a secondary connection, only a primary. But the other patches are working well in both primary and secondary.

I think, there is a problem with the cache at the 205.238.40.1 address.

Ok, I just want yall to give this a try.. I am using it and I LOVE IT.. easy to use, easy to install, has a built in block lists for the RIAA so you dont need to be installing and running Peerguardian just for WinMX.

Our KM built this and its by far a superior tool in getting our networks back in shape...

You just Download it and drop it into your WinMX folder in Program files

C\Program files\Winmx

Then replace your hosts file you installed with your original one.   Rename it from Old Hosts to Hosts and start WinMX...

Works great for secondary or primary, works on 3.53 and 3.54 beta 4.

Give this a try folks, you'll Love it i am sure.

Room Hosting
« Reply #376 on: September 27, 2005, 09:58:51 am »
So using this patch... which does work for me... what can we use to host a room? I normally use RoboServ but when I open the room and it says the room is visible on the WPN ... it isn't  :?

So anyone know what else I can use or how to solve this little problem?

With the previous released hosts files Roboserve should list.. we have seen several rooms doing fine with it.

try reinstalling it and if your running on xp do a comand in ms dos

ipconfig /fluchdns

then install and start Roboserv back up..

let us know
