this patch doesnt seem to be working now. I tried a ping and a tracert to the ip address in the file, it is unreachable. The error the other guy was talking about, i think is that there's some variation in the positioning of the winmx.com and c3*** parts on some of the lines, but im not sure if this is meant to be like that.

As for having no etc folder on your hard drive, try locating it manually from "My Computer". You may have to click "show files" at some points.

I have the etc folder on D drive, through WINNT folder directory. But tried that and nothing. Problems is I have windows directories on both drives. so really not sure where to put it. I'm in mx chat now and we're all doing it together. The host got his to work and is connected, the rest of us can't get it to work.

ITS DEAD AGAIN !!!! That hacked up fix got blocked by the IP admin of that block

$ ping 82.195.155.5
PING 82.195.155.5 (82.195.155.5) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 82.195.155.5 icmp_seq=1 Destination Port Unreachable
From 82.195.155.5 icmp_seq=2 Destination Port Unreachable
From 82.195.155.5 icmp_seq=3 Destination Port Unreachable

its like watching a kickass soccer match

Its because the guy who was hosting the new peer cache has had his connection blocked, most likely by his isp, so this wont work now until someone with a friendly isp hosts the peer cache.

Some people are still connected but my suspicion is if they disconnect, they cant re-connect because theres no peer cache

winmx back down
« Reply #78 on: September 23, 2005, 05:31:41 pm »
Yep its doa.  It could be several reasons.  One the computer got over loaded with users and no ram left.  The internet may need reset.  Someone shut the computer down.  Or the ISP is blocking all packets and/or changed the ip of the computer.   Lets get something straight.
I'm not sure where the WinMX main server was located, but if the patch was an ip direct connection then whoever shut down the host name, shut down the server as well.  Maybe a way to get it back is to setup a server in serveral countries where the laws are differant with serveral backups.
When one server is offline or crowed, goto the next server in the list.
Can you patch that?  I'm sure making the server to respond to winmx callings maybe a bit harder to do.  I'm sure someone out there knows a lil about it.  Or maybe the makers of WinMX will go underground and throw out a double patch with new server list, or maybe an updated winmx ver.
If all else fails, you can visit my torrent site.
 http://music-video-torrents.afz.biz
Or you can use your winmx opennap options and connect useing

I'll be taking videos and apps sharring only.  All other files ignored.

The RIAA is real power hungry -- good luck finding ANY ISP that will be that nice when INTERPOL is helping the RIAA
