well, that'd fine for you, but does it still work and i did something wrong or is it only that people who used the fix earlier are still online?

My extract wizard has put the "host" file in a folder (also called "Host") in the "etc" folder. Is this wrong?

then restart winmx, normally, and wait........it takes much longer than it used to, but it connects on secondary or primary if u put new host file in correct folder

Nope it's doesn't work.
When i ping the IP in the HOSTS file it says destination not reachable.

Is this my router who blocks it? cann't imagine.

Think the IP adres is overloaded or gone,

To bad this could be a great thing if this worked

yea but with every try it will fail, the persons isp will get disconnected. and then what? another try with someone elses isp gettin shut down.  All i say is, whoever is still dumb enough to keep tryin, i say let em do it, they will just have the riaa on their butts and also their isp gone bye bye.  whoever is stupid enough to do it go ahead.  WinMX is dead, the only thing that works is opennap, u can dl and chat, and also pm through opennap.  so give up on the cache files, or whateverthephuck they are called.

For those of you with Win98 heres what I did.

First find your 'Hosts' file, if it exists. c:\windows. Then cut and paste the zip hosts into it. Not sure if needd or not, but I put each reference to the ip address on a separate line. (I'm thinking if this next server goes down, I will be able to do a 'Find/Replace' easier). The 82.195.155.5 server is dead.

Change the server to 205.238.40.1.

Heres an example:

205.238.40.1 c3522.z1306.winmx.com
205.238.40.1 c3523.z1306.winmx.com

and so on. Do this for each c35... or whatever.

Save your 'Hosts' file. Be sure it has no extension. If it saves it as .txt, rename it to just 'Hosts'. No extension. Reboot machine.

I am currently connected to 6 primaries and 12 secondaries.

Well so everyone is going to trust Km or anyone ealse to keep a server up and if they get hammered by the man not to give up ip's of the users?
  And what is the patch made by Saber? Does it connect to the same servers
or is thjis war. and do we have to kiss km's ass so he will not firewall a user for not agreeing with him? what makes you think that a bunch of kids are going to win when a co. said well F it and closed down ?and if they do expect it to work for long they need to get the server program out to as many as they can to make sure we can allways connect. are they going to do this or is this just about control? if the server software is released ill run it for a server but ill not just trust anyone . you can all do as you see fit. but really think about it
