Help!

Okay, Ive been a WINMX useer for many years, I have just purchased a Netgear DG834gt Wireless router and for the life of me cannot get WINMX to work now, ive read all the tutorials on this site as well as at Port forwarding.com but still no joy.

Can someone explain to me in very very very simple and non IT jargon how the hell I get it to work again please?

Im using WINMX version 3.53
Windows XP with SP2
ISP is AOL Version 9

Please SOMEBODY help me before i HAVE TO GO AND USE BLOODY LINEWIRE

1s, if your winmx loads do u just get the connecting flashing yellow ? if its finding an outside port but not connecting it could be your firewall that's built in a service pack 2, because they cause a lot of problems stopping outgoing programs,

2nd, does your router recognise your firewall ?  or have you got an integral router with firewall ? if so then you must disable the sp2 firewall or they will conflict each other.

just started trying to use winmx and cant figure out how to download so i can get songs can anyone help?

Okay, so Ive managed to get winmx to connect through either Primary or secondary, only problem now is when I do a searcg i get 0 results and nobody can download anything from me as it always seem to time out.

Any suggestions?

Go to that site. A tutorial on how to forward ports in your router for winmx is given there.

Defaults are:
TCP : 6699
UDP 6257

Your problem is basicially that your ports are not forwarded. So once you open them things should be ok.

I would be surprised if the router model is the dg834gt you sure it aint the dg834g v3. If not im jealous as im aol and they gave me that crappy router instead of the gt model lol. i can give you lots of info if you want on that router and if its the same as mine i can tell you better settings to use to make it more stable. if not then your problem will be port forwarding as samseesam has pointed out above.
