MxMonitor v1.28Eb - strange activity observed
« on: January 26, 2007, 05:49:06 pm »

I have been running MxMonitor since 2006-August and have been quite happy with it.
Occasionally I have observed some odd entries in the log window but not enough to
hook my curiosity until last evening.

    System:

      Win98SE
      WinMx v3.54 beta 4
      MxMonitor v1.28Eb

    Occasional observations:

User is successfully receiving a file according to the WinMx upload window, but
WhoIs information is not present anywhere in the lower log window of MxMonitor.

    Observation 2007-Jan-25

User on the Ignore list (user###_43631) returned as user###_63274 which, as I
understand, allows them to be treated as a new user, circumventing the Ignore
       list.

       Here’s where it gets strange:

According to MxMonitor the user started and successfully completed 16 MP3
files over a 3 hour period, while WinMx has NO RECORD of ANY activity by that
user in it’s upload window.  WinMx is set not to automatically clear the upload
window and I can find records of other user’s uploads before and after the activity
in question.  Time elapsed between “Start UL” and “UL complete” in the MxMonitor
log window is reasonable for a complete transfer.

Has anyone else observed similar anomalies?

LeechHammer was a great upload manager but I have been unable to get it to work
with WinMx v3.54.  MxMonitor is good and has more features than LeechHammer
(except detection of the Zero Slot Hack, 0 of 0 available).

Are there any other upload managers available?  I see only the two aforementioned
 utilities on the WinMxWorld site.

Winmx does by default clear complete upload...
Under setting>Filetransfers
If you have mxmoniter still on, then no matter how many times the user changes his/her name, they will still end up in your ignore list (if they don't meet your moniter rules....)

I don't think there are any other upload managers, which I have heard of... mabye someone else can give you some names...

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

My apologies if I didn't word my original post clearly enough.  I attempted to include all
pertinant information so as to not waste anyone's time repeating myself.

I wrote that WinMx _IS_ set to keep all entries. (Settings, File Transfers, unchecked all items)

The main issue is MxMonitor reporting in a very reasonable, convincing manner, 16 successful
 transfers while WinMx didn't.

WinMX does not store entries like uploads & downloads, because it does not wright the information to a log, it does not have that ability, but MXMonitor does in logs, that stores the whois, tranfers & logs.

Does anybody bother to READ a post before responding??  Storage and/or
 logfiles are NOT the issue.

  a) WinMx is set to NOT auto-clear the upload info window so until
WinMx is closed or I clear it manually, the entries are on screen
to read.  (Yes, I know it does not keep log files. Not the issue)

  b) MxMontor reported 16 transfers of files

  c) for the same time period WinMx did NOT report those transfers
although it DID report transfers that correspond to entries in
MxMonitor both before & after the transfers in question

Thank-you for taking time to respond, but it would be helpful
if you were to respond to the actual issue to which I referred.

At least you took the time to read it and analyse it!

Thank you for paying attention.  Help offered when one doesn't
take time to understand the issue is akin to tossing an anvil to
someone asking for a hand out of the boat.

My concern with MxMonitor & WinMx is that activities are occurring
that are being missed by either or both programs.  I'm _slightly_
reassured that you have not experienced this...  disappointed that
there are no other upload managers to try.

Hi chmeee_ab_cdn  Welcome to the site..

LOL I hope you understand that everyone pitches in here and helps.. and that all of us are still learning..

I fully understand your set up as mine is set this way too.. no transfers ever clear from MX.  I do that manually.. but this is an odd issue.

How many users did this happen to then?
Was it only this one nite?
Was it only one user?

Somehow I can see if its a user from the ignored list slipping thro as Moni allows you to let a transfer go ahead if a whois times out, that would explain but this seems to be the visa versa of that, having them show in a Moni log and not on MX is strange..    lol

 Hi Me Here,

Like you I keep the WinMx transfer information as long as
possible.  It helps me to diagnose any connection issues as
I’m on non-standard ports due to ISP choking, plus I’ve got
an overly complex network connection to the internet.  I’m
online 24/7 and everything from weather to teenagers can and
 does affect my connection.

This is the first time that I observed WinMx missing information
and only because it was an ignored leech that got my attention.

In reference to your comment about WhoIs timeout, I have seen
MxMonitor let through users before when it didn't get information.
There is a checkbox for "Ignore when timeout" but I don't think
that's fair.  It would knock more sharers than leeches.

So far I've observed this only once, with one user, but I'll be
checking as much as possible to see if I can catch it again.  It's
a daunting task as there are no logfiles in WinMx.  I can run
the MxMonitor logs into MS-Access and strip them down to
essential information to make it easier, but it still comes down
to a lot of eyeball time to find anything.

Until this happened I was aware of MxMonitor missing a few
things here and there, but it was a surprise to discover that
WinMx could miss activity that was reported in MxMonitor.

I’ll be offline for the first two weeks of February, but I’ll start
actively comparing after that & report any findings.

 Thanks for your attention.

Ive not noticed this, but my cure was to stop using mxmonitor, I was a sufferer of it eating my cpu to 100% for no apparent reason.
As fas as i know it was never a completed project and when this random cpu bug appeared and alot of people reported it the maker seemed to give up. well i know of no fix as of yet and the current has been around for ages. So what you are experinencing might be yet another bug in the programme and seen as you check the logs which to be honest, i never do for anything unless their is a major problem your probably the only one to notice it, and i now know of 3 people who turn off the removing of uploads/downloads. I know alot or people just leave it as default so that leaves even fewer people to report it. Ill have a dig around for you and see what i can bring up but im sure a new upload manager is long over due.

I have one avenue you may want to check out.
I noticed that users who did not meet my MXMoni requirements were still able to download from me, it turned out that Moni will let them download if you are already downloading from them. I can't quite remember but I think it will start them even if you are just in their Q.
I wonder if it will also start them even tho they are in your ignore list??
I'd love to hear how you get on with this.
Cheers
