Hi Pandora,
the LAN is just a connection, actually its a good connection, but you need to allow full access to WinMX through your firewall,
this is the most common problem with service pack 2 firewall built into windows XP.

here is some tutorials on the most popular firewall set-up for WinMX Please Click Here For Tutorials

Hi Pandora50,

You'll Also more then likely need to foward ports in the router.  Here is also a guide to help you with that

Getting Started with Portforwarding

Hi
I'm having the same problem. When I bought the router, I found that I had to forward the ports, & this worked fine for about six weeks. I have only been having trouble the last two days. No changes have been made as far as I know to any software.
Using WinMX v3.54 beta 4, Win XP pro with SP2, and McAfee firewall, (WinMX has full access). Windows firewall is disabled.
Any suggestions?

Yes Mallee,

Often this type of problem is due to the router assigning a new Internal IP to your PC using MX. This essencially breaks the rules you made.  It usualy will self correct if you reboot the roter and PC but we recommend going to your Start > Run > type in 'cmd' then say OK.
Now in the Black Dos box type    'ipconfig'   and hit enter.

Now you should see the IP Address listed here.
Go back into the router config pages as if your setting up ports and check that IP.  If you find its changed then the best advice is to set up a Static IP for it to use.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I checked the internal IP address and they were the same. Tried deleting the rules, rebooting, and then set them up again. Still have
the same problem. Everyone times out.

In that case have you got any other software that could be blocking the ports,

What firewalls do you use (including anything disabled, like XP)?
What Antivirus are you using ?
Are there any other protective programs running that might interfere?

What ports have you tried opening for WinMX?

Nothing new has been installed since it stopped working properly.
Using WinMX v3.54 beta 4, Win XP pro with SP2, and McAfee firewall, (WinMX has full access). Windows firewall is disabled.
McAfee antivirus
I use mailwasher & adaware, neither of which run in background.
port 6699 for TCP connections & port 6257 for UDP

Somtimes with updates the XP firewall can enable itself so can you check that its off for me

Control Panel > Firewall icon > Disable

I ran a check for the IP your posting from and those ports
6699 is closed
6257 is open

So we need to figure out whats closed it.  It might also be worth trying different ports,  Make two new rules in the router for say port 16699 TCP and 16257 UDP and then change them in WinMX > Settings > Incoming TCP ...16699 and In/Out UDP....16257

see if this helps.

Hi
I tried this three times before it started working. There are two people downloading at the moment, so hopefully it is fixed and continues to work.

Thankyou very much for your help.

Guys, I've got a question regarding port forwarding of broadband router.

Do I still need to do the port forwarding configuration if I have "DMZ" enable to my pc's IP address??

cos I am having the same problem that I couldn't upload nor download from others.
even my Winmx can connect to a server (ONLINE is GREEN), can search for files, have ppl queueing up to download my shared files and I can connect and queue up for download from others, no problem on those.

but when I start to download from others and upload to others, its just very very slow at first and it will still at "0.00k/b" for a while then it will  say "Time out ... blah blah blah"

I have tried to change the tcp and udp port to 16699 and 16257, still no go

hope there is someone who can give a little hand to me~~  Best reqard~~

Winmx 3.54 beta 4
Windows XP SP2, windows firewall disable,
N.O.D. anti virus
no other firewall program is runnig at the back

Hi Goo,

First of all if the IP is set to DMZ then yes that should be sufficient to allow connections.
Second the connections are working or they would never be established.  Often when we see this type of problem ie: Connection made,  very slow or normal speeds, then drops to 0.00kb/s its usually a throttling software from your ISP.  Most of those are not by ports anymore so changing that often doesnt help the problem

What Id like you to do is to come by the Chat room we have for help on WinMX so we can chat and test your transfers in real time.
WinMxWorld.com Help_E3D7EFD50D3D

Click the Chat button, In the 'Filter Bar' copy and paste the above name entirely.  Making sure not to add extra spaces to the end when you paste it and then click the Join button to the far right.

Tell them when you get there you were directed there by Me Here for help and what your issues are.

Seems like more and more people are having their ULs blocked or at least shaped by ISPs using packet shaping.  Comcast, Cox, and Charter for sure are packet shaping high volume users.  Not sure what their criteria is, but they seem to be different in different areas.   If you can't UL your going to end up on everyones Ignore list sooner or later.  Changing ports won't help.
Changing ISPs  may help, but probably only for awhile.

Some other P2P apps obfuscate the packets so the ISPs software doesn't recognize it.  I think we need something like that to keep WinMX alive and well.

See the discussion on WinMX Friendly Ports?

Devie can you post a bit more information for us

Do you have a router or possibly a DSL modem acting as a router?
What firewalls do you use?
Are you primary or seconary on WinMX and what version and patch are you on?
Do you use XP?
