Click on winmx.exe and go to properties, it should be somewhere in the tabs among those.

Try that and see if that works
If it does not, then go and try out km's vista patch for winmx
Instructions, look at my last post : https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=4232.msg28227#msg28227

Cheers :P

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post.

I need to read this thread, which I have not done yet but I found a link on a web site asking to report Vista issues here.

I am using WinMX v3.53 and apparently the patch verision I have is 3.4 as is says "Please be Patient!!! V3.4" in the status area in the upper left hand corner of WinMX.

Since I got my new laptop with Vista, my WinMX experience has come to virtually a grinding halt. On my other laptop that had Windows XP Professional, I had a great time.

I am behind a LAN as I do this from my place of work and I have no control over the network. My laptop stays on my desk at work and churns away 24/7 normally and while I am not here I do a lot of file sharing.

When I got the new machine, my outgoing bandwidth stayed about the same - around 50k/s on average.

My incoming bandwidth use to vary from low to 500k/s.

Now, I never get files any faster than I would using dial-up. It's rare if I ever top 10k/s.

Also, I never get as many people in queue as I used to. It's rarer that I get started and I don't see as many files in searches.

I don't know if this relates to Vista or if it is something else.

Anyway, that's my report, and any help would be appreciated.

First off, it's better you use the winmxgroup patch...
This will remove all fake listings from your searches.

Read more about it here:
Why blocking is needed: https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/fake_file_info.html
How to filter : https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/filtering_fakes.html
Comparasion between pie patch and the winmxgroup patch : https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=3598.0.html
Do this:

Uninstall the pie patch and delete the winmx folder from C>Program files.

Now reinstall winmx from here:
Select the option to install 3.53 if you want that instead of a newer version
https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe

Any questions, you can ask here or come to the winmxworld helproom
WinMxWorld.com Help_A06F7657BABE
I'd recommend tht you shift to the wmg patch in your home pc as well

As you are using vista, do this as well :
1.> Close winmx.

2.> Go to your winmx folder and delete a file called OLEDLG.DLL.

3.> Now download the file on this link:
https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=4360.0;attach=1400
and put it in the folder in which the winmx.exe file is there

4.> If some connections problems occur, remove the firewall rules of winmx and re add them.

5.> Restart winmx and try connections on primary and secondary.

Does shifting to the new patch help?
Try to download some files which you downloaded with good speed, do they still download at a good speed or are those bad as well?
Does the speed of the download stay constant? or does it fluctuate?

Cheers :P

Try the BendMX 3.99a2 build from the archive Here there are more bugs being an earlier build, but it does at least work with the 3.0 patch, i can't say about it working on Vista, but this also holds for Win2K & XP, so it has to be worth a shot.

A partial solution is to search for the file and download the yellow ones....

Reporting back...

Earlier today I performed the steps you recommended.

Although not a scientific test, over the three hours or so since I did this and started WinMX, those downloading from me are actually going slower than normal.

The two uploads that are going now are running at dial-up type speeds... one at 4.5k one at 6.3k.

I've not been able to get any downloads started. The two that tried timed out so I don't know if there is a problem there or what.

I can't seem to get a download started but on the outgoing files, I am giving stuff to other people at dial-up speeds.

Incoming, unknown.... again the only thing that has changed here is the actual computer I am using.

I formerly would be downloading three or four files at a time all at 100k or more each.... very exciting, but since I got this new computer, it's as if I have re-enetered the world of dial-up with WinMX.

It's not that way when downloading files from web sites. I usually get over 100k. I'm not on a very fast sort of high speed Internet but it's got to be faster than what I am getting using WinMX.

FYI, I also use MX Monitor but that doesn't seem to have any kind of bandwidth controls that might cause a problem with transfer speed.

OK I dont know alot about computers. I just bought a new one and although I am not an expert I dont believe its any type of hardware issue (unless you have a router). My old comp ran winmx just fine I'm using the same version on the new comp as the old one which is version 3.54 beta.  The operating system on the old one was windows xp and the new one is windows vista like I said the old one works perfectly, however when I got vista and installed it I had nothing but problems I couldn't connect. Well with several hours on the phone  with linksys yahoo and dell Yahoo bridged my modem to sync with my linksys router and with the assistance of linksys I set up my ports so I could get out. this solved my problem but soon found out I could only use one comp at a time for winmx and if I switched I would have to reconfigure my router. Which I can accept. The problem that I have However I have not seen anyone mention. When I down load music or movies they go to "my music"  If I log off or get disconnected from the net or winmx I log back on and go to my transfers page its blank and i cant get to my incomplete files I then try to go to  "open incoming files folder" which I then get an error that says "error location is not available access is denied" I have tried everything I know to do I have disabled every firewall and still nothing. when i try to bring up the same search terms as before nothing is yellow so it makes it very difficult to pick up where I left off. Its very aggravating and do not know what to do some how vista is denying access and I dont know how to remedy it. If anyone knows how to fix this please give me some help.

for the access denied problem trying to access the download directory, try going to the directory and right clicking then selecting properties, and under "security" make sure "full control" is set for both your username and administrator

tamboy: that sounds like you have your power settings set to send the computer in to sleep mode when it isn't being used, go to control panel then under power options (under hardware and sound with the default view) change the power settings - you can either set it to "high performance" or customise the existing option to change the sleep time to never

OK I have figured out my specific problem so everyone that had shared my problem here is the fix (please see previous posts to know what my specific problem was) go to the winmx settings page your going to have to go to the setup wizard when you get to the part where it asks for the incoming files destination folder make sure it looks something like this (cause its different from windows xp) c:/users/Steven/music/   versus how it was set up on the xp which was something like c:/Steven/documents/mymusic/ this version of music doesn't exist on vista so that is why it was denying access you must go to the setup wizard for this to permanently take effect and that will solve all of the issues i was having hope this helps people out I'm back to using winmx very happily again enjoy!
