paid $40.00 for winmx last night. cannot get it to connect.

Hello. My name is Linda. My husband and I bought the lifetime subscription to winmx last night.
we've just got highspeed internet this week. we cannot get it to connect. when we get it to start the process it states please wait while winmx automatically configures itself to match your internet connection.If you are on a LAN or behind a firewall or broadband routerand have mapped other ports other than tcp6699 and udp6257 blah blah blah... okay, I'm new to highspeed internet through our cable company. But were connected to internet always. I turned off all spyware & firewall ETC. second message we got was this:
winmx was unable to make an outgoing tcp  connection to its test server this could be because the computer is not currently directly connected to the internet, you are on a local area network (LAN) and need to use a SOCKS proxy server to make outgoing TCP connections
or there is a temporary network problem.
Ive tried getting on the site we bought the membership from for some tech support... Nope.. Ive emailed several emails off. No current operators are on line through the on line live chat.
I'm at a loss.. I don't know what to do.... My husband did not print off the page after we made the credit card payment with the confirmation number.... Uggggggghhhh...  did we just get nothing for $40.00???
is there anyone out there that can help me??? Cox highspeed internet with ethernet connection.
the version of winmx is : winmx354b4  I have Windows xp, all updated. Using the firewall with cox security suite. I have AVG antivirus, & spyware. Adaware, and spybot.
anyone????  please help????

DAM$.... ok.....    so i just told my hubby this, and he said we cannot call the bank to stop that $40.00 charge from coming out, as in the small print he did pay attention to said if we stop payment on it, they will charge us $30.00 and then somehting like $75.00 for every hour we use winmx...  not I really do not know what to do...

ohhhh my......   I'm thinking I'm gonna call the bank and have them shut off my hubby's card.. will be a hassle for us for a bit I'm sure.... But in the long run who knows what these fools are gonna try and take from us...  I cannot be live we fell for a scam, as much protection as I have on this PC, it was so simple to fall for it.. I know winmx was free.. we had it for years... crashed and took me a lilbit to get it back, that was around the time they were ordered to stop. when i went back everywhere i went said it was a pay for site now...
I cannot thank you all enough... I knew it in my gut all morning while clicking on their live chat button and it coming back with a no operator on line to help.......

I know what the fine print says.. but first of all you have to keep in mind.. they are scamming you.. so they are going to try to scare you into thinking they will mess with you.. call the bank and report them.. trust me you wont get charged for every minute on WinMX.

What ever you have installed from them uninstall it.. looking at your screen shot that is not even WinMX.. looks like a lookalike.. and install from the URL tha SamSeeSam has posted for you.

Let us know if you have any problems we offer full support here FREE..always...

*edit* and i would like to add hun .. we all get scamed sometime in life.. no one here is going to see this as you being stupid.. it just happened and like you said it is easy for them.. they look legit.. Im just glad you got to us before its too late .. or so that you can actualy get help and enjoy WinMX to its fullest

Thank you all so very much. Called the bank and cancelled the card... they already posted that money.. altho there is a hold on it.. lol
gonna get a new card in a week or so, and if that does post out of our account we can fill out an affidavid and try to get the money back.. But they wont get anymore that is for sure.

Again, I'd like to seriously Thank you ALL.. For having this site here., For helping me... for being such a great community of folks. I'm glad I joined and plan on being here for the duration.  I might be able to help in some posts that I can, I maybe able to help with the horrible experience we've went Through, In the hopes to help someone anyone from not going though the same thing....I'd like to help in anyway I can, for you all have helped me and made me feel very welcome and I am  happy to have found you all.

Linda one of the best things you could do.. (thought just occured reading your post) lots of reports went out when MX did shut down that it was going to be pay site.. as you saw.. maybe you could retrace some of your steps in finding us and post on those sites that it is NOT a pay site and that its here for the taking.. might help one person avoid your dilemma...

I ended up having to uninstall the version I had, and re-installed from that link.

My system stats are:
Modem: Cable
OS: WindowsXP

Welcome justeyez... I didnt originally post on here about the free winmx...  I found this site, most likely just as you did. I got scammed into paying money for the broken link, that looks just like the real , but gets you to the spot where it stated you cannot connect.
we did hear back from the scammers and they said they were sending us a refund.. But I hurried up and closed that credit card as soon as I figured out I paid for a free program, and they will only give us a refund on the CC so Im out the $40.00 ..  but I chalk this up to bad eggs, and will not reopen that cc so that they can steal more from me....

I love this site, have learned alot from the tutorials, and the folks here are allllllll wonderfull...

It's unfortunate, but happens. The first place where I found winmx was still available was a scam site. I was saving up on my pocket money for an unlimited package. I tired to look for another site as I knew winmx was free, so it was highly probable it would be still. Wikipedia came and saved me by sending me, here to winmxworld lol

Always feel free to ask anything if you have trouble. And pass on the message that winmx is still online, to all those who once knew it and to others to attract new users

although, when you saw the scam site and thought winmx must still be around, you could have been wrong.. because even if winmx had gone the scam sites would have still been selling it, lol (just look at how many of them sell broken unpatched copies of winmx...)
