Testers Needed
« on: March 02, 2007, 08:02:49 pm »
After many hours of trying to debug, debugging why i can't debug, debugging the debugger debugging, then eventually trying to isolate the vista problem

I have identified that whatever it is, i can't see it... everything looks correct, everything is being returned correctly and winmx s getting the exact answers it is meant to get... right before deciding to disconnect for no reason

Primary seems to be fine for just about everyone, and secondary seems fine on patch 2.2 without the filtering, but not on 3.0... so i've come up with a fix

Basically if i remove all of the code for filtering on secondary then in theory this should solve it, of course the obvious problem then is there is no filtering on secondary... wrong ;-) a side effect of the way the filtering is implemented in primaries is that they also filter the results for any secondaries connected through them. so as long as you always connect through 3.0 patched primaries it would still be filtered.

So I've come up with a patch that for primary will filter and behave exactly like the normal patch, but for secondary it will deliberately block all non-patched primaries, and will only connect through a primary that is filtering.

Unfortunately I have been unable to test this theory out because for some unknown reason my vista test system has now decided it loves winmx, and the normal patch is working just fine (nice timing), so of course i don't know if it fixed it or not. It may have done absolutely nothing and not have improved things one bit for all I know.

If you're using vista and having problems with 3.0 on secondary, give this patch a try (pop it in the winmx folder, over the top of the existing file) and let me know if it works or not.

This is also suitable for non-vista users, if they want to be forced to only use filtering primaries (would give a more stable connection) however it is not really required for them.

[edit]patch removed, please see this thread for the download[/edit]

no channels on primary?

that's either a port issue, or that windows live one thingy, which will block all UDP in to your computer, and i can't see a way to make it not do it (this is not part of the firewall, even with the firewall off it blocks everything with no way to disable)

oh well, it's not looking good anyway...

i'm just wondering why my vista system suddenly started working fine

I'm running Vista and I just installed WinMX and had the problem of it disconnecting every couple of minutes. The patch seems to have fixed this though...

Thanks for posting it!

K M   I Had to reinstall WinMX because it kept shutting down so I installed your patch as well, it seems to be working fine this time. Ive left it over night and it hasn't crashed. Could have been just a ghost in the machine who knows. Ill keep you informed.

I cant speak good English, sry. However, I report a few problems on my system.

My system is:
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit(Build 6000)
WinMX 3.54b4 with MX monitor 1.28b
CPU:Athron64 3500+, Motherboad:ASUS M2NPV-PM, Memory:DDR2 667 1024M, HDD:SATA 500GB

With Patch3.0:
Ive met more negotiate error(314) on vista than on XP.
This dont apear on new Dll.

With Patch3.1:
I couldnt have used the patch with monitor.

With new testing Dll:
At fast speed trade with particular opponent, the download speed sometimes become 0.00KB/s intermittently.
This didnt appear on Patch3.0.

These phenomena certainly happen even if I re-install WinMX and Patch.

i start test it today so let see what's happend i make my post similar to atab0u
and excuse my bad English

My system is:

Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit(Build 6.0.6000.16386) Spanish Build MSDN Retail (MSDN beta tester from Microsoft)

WinMX 3.54b4 Without BendMX (because it don't work with vista)

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT Technology - 3.4GHz Processor (3.4GHz, 1MB, 800MHz FSB, Socket 478)

RAM: 2048 Mb  (using about 400 - 600 Mb depends what I'm doing in every moment)

Graphic card: ATI RADEON X1600 Series  512 Mb ram

Vista firewall service: disabled

With testing Dll: in the black box i read V3.4

connecting in secondary with out no problem in light speed almost ( it could be just luck :D )

the first time i connect to the WPN list it only load about 400 channels but when i refreshed the WPN list it loads very fast (1700 channel loads) and i don't have any problem to enter in any channel people can join my queue list and i can share with no problem
i have test it for 5 hours without any visible problems
I'm going to test this every day for ever so I'm keeping in touch for more information .....

thanks KM , the true spirit of WinMX ........

Your patch is totally awesome. My daughter bought a new computer w/ Vista. We d/l WinMX and have been trying to get it to function for at least a month. I have installed many times and went through settings to no end. I ran into your patch about an hour ago and installed it. D/l's are fast and not one disconnect so far. Thanks again.
