Unrelated, Whacky Search Results

Since I started using OpenNap protocol, I've noticed I get a lot of crap in my searches. For instance, just now I searched for a Sam Phillips song and got a long list of totally unrelated listings, including a ton of "movie clips" and "sound effects".

What IS all that junk? Is someone perhaps infiltrating the program with stuff they wanna promote on every search? Is that possible?

i would suggest possibly flooders? same as on the WPN... the difference being on opennap it's extremely easy for the server operators to block and filter it, if they wanted to...

You mean, all those excess, unrelated search results could be blocked/filtered by each of the opennap server operators, but they choose NOT to? Bummer for users.

the WPN is the winmx network...

and yes, opennap you request search results from the search, and the server sends back the details of files of the users connected to it - it can chose not to send them if it wants, or simply block them connecting in the first place if they want

opennap servers control every search result over opennap, that's why napster had all those problems, they had every single search result going through their systems - opennap is literally napster, just the servers are run by different people
