More than a few old unused tunnels happen to be used for housing communication wires.

sewers are used for cabling, they have tunnels already made, it's convenient to just walk along them running a cable...

however as for dropping it down the toilet, that's just silly...

one problem with google, they do their april fools things, they stick them on the home page - many people have google as their home page, so first thing you see when you come online is that, it's so ridiculous you're going to know it's an april fools thing, and now that you've been reminded of the date you won't fall for the more believable tricks on other sites
