Author Topic: WimMX just keeps closing itself down??? (Read 1897 times)

Hi everyone,

Please, I need some serious help here with my WinMX.

My WimMX 3.54 B4 just keeps closing itself down a short while after I have started it up.
There wasn't a problem with it at all until very recently.

At first it would only close if I sent it to the tray, but now it wont stay on for more than a couple of minutes at best.
I have tried un-installing it then re-installing it with the latest patch with no success.
(It connects to the network okay, its just WinMX wont stay on and closes itself down without warning???)
Now I can't even finish adding sharing folders setting up before it shuts down and when I restart it it hasn't remembered the ones I already have added.

So I try to add them again and again and again and...

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32-bit and all the ports have been forwarded.
My ISP did have recent problems with "Ghost" sessions locking out its customers which prevented them (myself included.) from any internet access but I don't think thtat is the real issue here.
No other programs seem effected and all still work perfectly except for WinMX.

Any Ideas?

Just to start with,

Go to Start, click the programmes tab at the bottom so you can see you installed programmes. (Like the picture below) And right click on CMD, Choose run as administrator. A little black box will appear with some writing in it, what it says isnt important. Then including the space type sfc /scannow and press enter and wait. This will check all your system files and make sure their are no errors etc. Then run winmx for a awhile and see if you have the same problem.

If you do i would reinstall winmx. If you grab the download from the patch page it will reinstall without wrecking your settings, if you still have problems come back and i will advise a complete uninstall of winmx and a reinstall.

No problems detected but WinMX still shuts down.

Ok well go to the patch page and choose the version of winmx you have now and download and install winmx again. Doing i this way will preserve your settings and see how it runs.

I have already saved the new patches and WinMX install programs to my computer.
I just tried installing 3.54 B4 but with no luck getting it to stay on either.

I'm not worried about re-entering my settings, I just want it to work properly.

ok well go to add/remove programs and uninstall winmx, then go to C:/Programs an make sure their is nothing in the folder Winmx if it still exists and then reinstall winmx and add all your settings. Also downloads can be slightly corrupt, so i would re download them to make sure they are ok.

Thanks for your help, but I now think the problem isn't with WinMX at all.
Another non-related program isn't working now meaning the problem must be with the OS.

(I hate Vista.)

I have now contacted Hewlett-Packard Tech Support and they are on board to fix my computer problems.
