problem with search function
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:02:06 pm »
I was using WinMX happily quite a long time ago. I stopped like 2 years ago, and i just have reinstalled it today.
I dled the patched version available here. I tested the 3.54 and the 3.53 version but i encounterd the same problem with both: the search function seems  not working.

I have no problem connecting, i can dowload file and upload properly..but i can't search anything. The search screen just stay empty forever, whatever the key word i use.

I tried Winzo (alternate  WInmx program), and i don't have any problem performing search with it...but i just dislike the implementation of that software. I really wish i could have the good old winmx working properly.

My ports are correctly forwarded to my  router (i assume at least since i  connect, dld and upld properly), so i really can't see where is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Do you get a channel list for chat?  If not i suspect you have TCP forwarded correctly & a problem with UDP (error in the forwarding or firewall blocking it).

If this isn't enough for you to identify & correct the problem, then go to settings & set winmx asunable to send/receive UDP datagrams & see what happens after restarting the program.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

Thanks for yor answer

Nope i can't get the chat list when i'm connected in primary wich would mean i have a trouble with my UDP port. Unfortunatly, this port is correctly forwarded in my router and is supposed to be open in my firewall...
I'm just stuck atm with the primary connection, i can't find a way to have it functionning properly.

If i choose a secondary connection, then search do work..but well, it's still a secondary connection meaning a very reduced use of winmx :x

Have you checked your XP firewall?  (if your using XP)  This often works fine for secondary with WinMX on the exceptions list but for a primary to function it must also have ports set.

Make sure its either disabled or configured with ports correctly as per this page:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp-sp2.html

Another common issue with ports i the Intenal IP.  Most routers or modems with NAT also require you set the IP of the machine your wanting the ports allowed for.  Be sure yours is set correctly as many folks commonly put in the routers IP or Gateway IP in the rules.

You can verify this by doing this

Go to Start > Run >  type in          cmd
Click OK
then in the black box type          ipconfig
Hit Enter.

You should see your IP Address listed here along with your Gateway.  Make sure the router or modem is set to use the IP Address if yours requires it.

actually secondery speed wise is a better choice because winmx doesn't hold 5kb/s for network on secondery like it does for primery
