How to give administrator access to winmx folder
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:23:15 pm »
After seeing this is becoming quite a common thing for Vista users, and after trying to explain this procedure to someone in the Help Room, I though a short (OK maybe not so short) guide would be helpful.

This should correct errors with not being able to save settings or use the library properly.

Ensure your account type is Administrator

Browse to C:\Program Files  Right click your WinMX and select 'Propertys' as shown here

On the WinMX Propertys Dialogue Box select 'Edit'

Select 'Add'

Select 'Advanced'

Select 'Find Now' and select YOUR useraccount name from the search results and click 'OK'

Select 'OK'

Select YOUR useraccount name from the list, and tick the 'allow' box next to 'fulll control' Select 'Apply' and 'OK'

Select 'Advanced'

Select the 'Owner' Tab and click on 'Edit'

Select your useraccount name from the list, tick 'Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects'  Clcik'Apply' and 'OK'

'OK' the following dialogue box

Click 'OK' on all remaining widows.

Once again bring up the propertys fro the WinMX Directory

Select the 'Security' tab and click on 'Advanced'

On the 'Permissions' tab select 'Edit'

uncheck 'Include inheritable [ermission from this object's parent'

You will be presented with the following dialogue box, select 'Remove'

'Apply' and 'OK' all remaining windows

if you still encounter problems with saving settings or your library, Close WinMX, delete the setting.dat & lib4.dat files from the winmx directory and allow WinMx to re-create them when re-opened.

hi...i have vista, and whenever i open up winmx, my incomplete files are no longer in the transfer window, to try to reconnect automatically. i did everything you showed me, but winmx still doesn't save the incomplete files. can you be more specific on how to delete those files you mentioned in the winmx directory? how do i get to the directory? i looked in winmx properties, but didn't see anything. thanx...

Micromecca; Back to me who started the Qs; I have already accomplished the task of becoming the Admin of my own friggin puter, so can you tell me just how to do the admin thing for WinMx, as I have trouble breaking down all the text, already written. This is good work you do, and many will love your help, I'm sure. Thanks

     'Incomplete' files leave me puzzled.
« on: November 17, 2008, 02:59:13 PM »

Every file I've downloaded recently shows in my Winmx library as 'incomplete'. The file sizes are same as target which isn't shown as incomplete. My music folder shows the files as normal (complete). Can you please advise me how to correct this issue, as I have tried renaming the files but they still return as 'incomplete'.

Thanks for reply. Yes I have changed to Vista Home Premium. Followed your instructions four times and on each occasion  found the same problem as before. Is there anything else I can try now?

Hi Mytheroo, don't know if they show as incomplete on others browsing, but they are complete in my music folder. Have just uninstalled and reinstalled Winmx 3.54b4. Got same problem in my Winmx library so followed the action once again as described by 'reef' above. Don't appear to have same screens setup as the sequence shows. but following as close as I could, it would not allow me to tick 'full permission' box as advised. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
