there's a distinction, child abuse & child porn are criminal matters throughout the civilised world...
copyright violation tends to be a civil matter

police & other authorities have a duty to investigate criminal activity, wheras loss of revenue from say copyright violation, it's up to the "injured party" to gather evidence & bring a lawsuit

Well true... but still makes you wonder what else they are investigating on WinMX.. it seems to me that its been quite lately (no new activity from RIAA) (or ive just been to bbusy to take note)

The whole point of having the law laid out James is so that we dont have to guess what they are up to, the agencies you cite are with the exception of the RIAA/MPAA government agencies and they do not take part in civil litigation.

Its not a criminal offence to download or upload, it is a civil offence to upload, downloading is not an offence at all, a breif read through the news threads should have made this clear.

As Bearded quite correctly states it is an criminal offence to download, upload or even have in your possesion child abuse materials

As to wondering what our "friends" are up to, rest assured folks on this side of the water are always silently beavering away too, as demonstrated by the fact that regardless of claims made some time ago that the filtering and blocking would be defeated it has not been, but its not through their lack of trying.

As with kiddy porn and copy wrighted files they need to get a down load off you to charge you. we know they are doing this with kiddy porn, they have hit winmx twice in the last few years. I agree with ghost on the criminal and the civil matters but still you can be too safe. With the riaa and mpaa looseing right and left in courts what will they do next.
They know we block the flooding and fake files as fast as we can so what left for them to do?
This is a good time to make sure we dont make it any easer than it can be for them so all nubee's check your shares and show full paths and see if you giveing too much info out in just your shares. ive see way too much info given in a full path search. other than thet if they connect to ya they got your ip addy unless you proxy and thats a just how far they wish to go. But this is with every P2P program. Id feel better if we would hear about another P2P being hit with kiddy porn traders not just winmx all the time not the word i like getting around about winmx is just for kiddy porn well i guess you could also say if they do share kiddy porn they will get cought can be taken both ways i guess.
