Both ports were set the same in WinMX and firewall exceptions

ZA has WinMX as a trusted zone.

I tried the higher numbers for the ports but no luck.

Guest our live chat room is here:

WinMxWorld.Com_1F6B8156094A

Copy and paste that into the Filter bar of your WinMX and click the 'Join' button to the far right side of Filter Bar.

Once you get there we can test your downloads and uploads with users in the chat room.

The chat room was pathetic.  It was so slow and no one responded to my request for help.

Thanks alot for all your help.

Anything else we can try?  Do I need to remove any dll file?  Flushing DNS?

Hi Guest,

Sorry about the chat room experience, I must have missed your visit.  We are all volunteers there and cant be at the computers 24/7.

As far as removing any .dll that will only kill your WinMX connection, and installing a different solution will not fix your uploads or downloads.  The patch you use has nothing to do with uploads or downloads.

The DNS flush is also to clear the cached results for resolving DNS, so would only be helpful if you werent able to get your WinMX to connect  to the network at all.

I would encourage you to visit the room again and give us another chance.. the reasons I wanted you to visit where to test your uploads and downloads and go over your settings and system set up in a one on one atmosphere.

At this point barring you being able to test your transfers, I must say I am at a bit of a loss with this.  I dont give up that easy however, will need to do some thinking on this ..

To be a primary on WinMX do i have to have both TCP & UDP ports open?
I went to grc.com to probe my WinMX TCP & UDP port's and it said my TCP port for MX is open, but when i checked my UDP port it said it's stealth. I tried UDP port 6257 & 16257 and got the same results stealth.

It's seems to be normal for the UDP port to be shown as stealth there when using a software firewall that opens the port for one application only (winmx in this case), mine is definitely open for winmx and shows the same.
Still, for winmx to work properly you need to have both ports opened/routed through router and firewall properly on the corresponding protocols (TCP/UDP).

ok thank you..i'm allowing mx through my firewall and i'm not using a router.
If I can only stop my PC from running out of system resources & my PC from slowing down when i'm using MX I would be a happy camper.Maybe when I update to XP i'll stop having that problem.

If your using PG2 & haven't added the winmxworld block list & allowlist you can get it here block_the_riaa with a tutorial on how to add the winmxworld block list & allow list into PG2. If you are using the .dll patch on M$ 2K/XP it already has a blocklist to block the cartels.

I'm currently connected to WinMX as a Primary and I'm on 1.5mb/256kbs and I'm uploading max 4kbs... Now that's not normal when I have been uploading around 27 before. I have port mapped for both TCP 6699 and UDP 6257 and they work fine. does anyone know the way to fix the problem?

weren't being such dickheads.......redid settings....and made good prime
connection but whats the point.......if the throddle the crap out of me and
others who love winmx...and would be more than happy to help

MakeLikeFagan,

Trust me we understand your frustration,

I hate to loose folks like yourself over  things that are out of your control.  And as I remind others there is still alot of good to be done to help this network by folks like yourself.  Now I understand that WinMX is a p2p and that is the main thing ppl think about, heck its the reason we all got MX in the first place normally, but keep in mind that if you choose to continue using MX until you can get you ISP situation taken care of, its still a huge help to the Network.

Remember that when you run as a primary you are helping to create a stronger Network, and also supporting secondaries that are not as lucky to be able to make a primary connection like your self.  Also helping in some of the Chat rooms with other folks that have problems is a great way to support this Network.

If you choose not to keep trying your connection, I understand that also, its hard for me, as I am not actually the one that has to deal with this, but I hope you will keep in mind that your still very important to us all.. :D

Well that depends,

There are probably other causes of slow downloads and uploads.  The fact that they are getting through suggests that the ports are ok.

Have you attemped to change your port settings, usually higher numbers are good.  Any numbers will work as long as they are  the same ones you set for your WinMX, router/dsl modem (if you have one), and your firewalls.  That said higher for ISPs that are filtering is usually best.

Also I would ask if anything has changed around the time this happened, like changes in software, updates from microsoft that could have acctivated a normally disabled XP firewall, or changing settings on WinMX itself.

The last thing is who is your ISP, and is it Cable?

As I have mentioned before its normally only Cable companies that like to cry about bandwidth shortages and the evils of file sharing.

Hitting the applications button on the main interface, finding winmx & toggling through the options till it's set to ASK should be enough..

Then start WinMX & hit "yes" in the dialogues that pop up, remembering to check the "remember my answer" box..

This usually sorts out if your configuration re ports has changed too.

Hello from a new member. :D
I am using WinMX 3 years.
I had an ISDN 64 connection speed till 1 month ago.Now I have a dsl 384/128.
The last few months I was visiting winmx very few times because my free time was little.
Suddenly one day I saw winmx wasn' t there so I give up trying to connect. :(
When I find out about the patch I said let's see what speed can I get with dsl.
 :D
I' ve seen 40kB/ps sometimes but usually 30-35kB/ps!! :P before I was 7.34kB/ps max!!
I use primary connection too now and dispite tha fact it goes between 20-35 many times(not so many) I don't care.It is very stable and the speed is very good.
I want to spread winmx to others peers.
I also want to say that all these years using minmx made me dislike all the other p2p programms.
I don't bother at all knowing them.
WinMX or nothing...
