WCS Keeps Erroring..

Windows gives me the: WCS has encountered a problem and needs to close.

This happens between 0 to 5 mins after i open WCS.

So wtf is going on with it, its pissing me off :|

Try moving it a different directory and ensure you have full control over it, somewhere on the root of C would be ideal

Moved it directly to C drive and i opened it up and it errored again..

Btw, i run kaspersky anti virus and windows firewall.

Thats it, and it only started to error out of the blue today!

have you got the logins correct, i know if you get them wrong it kills the room, also i remebr being told about the order of things in the config once, post your config on here with the passes removed so we can see if you have something wrong

try wih a default config (or blank with just essential stuff like a short topic/MOTD/a basic login/etc), then if it's fine gradually add stuff back

I'll try it with a blank config as KM said, as i have added alot of stuff to the config.

Hmmmmmm, i stopped it erroring i think. I took loads of stuff out of the config. And it dident error. Then i added the rest of my old config back but took some bits out that wernt needed and it hasent errored yet.

Bit stupid though how WCS errors if your Config is to big.

try adding the other stuff and see if you can find out what caused it, at the very least you'll know in future

the reason is because it typically takes config files as trusted, although it has protection from things that can cause crashes that users send to the room i generally don't bother too much with the config file hence buffer overflows can happen quite easily (it's nothing to do with the size of the config file, it's a certain line causing it - it doesn't care about the length it just reads 1 line at a time)

although it's on my mental to-do list if i ever have time to waste it's not considered a priority to go through adding the extra checking all over the bits for reading the config file, for the same reason that it wasn't done in the first place that it's not a security risk and will only crash if you're trying to do stuff you can't do anyway

Most of the time, when i know of that happening, its the Text Formats that are scewed... then when you try the login with the screwed format it errors...

Example;

t1 < > %s
t2 < %s >

Password=*1=pass
Password=*2=pass2

oh and by the way KM, it is a good idea to take it off your mental to do list and add it. because i've seen people accidently type a line wrong, and it crash a room with 60 people.. thats kinda annoying.

A good thing about Ouka, or FX, it doesnt crash, it just tels you what it missing.. well FX does anyway or it just skips the line.. Ouka skips the Line completely and discards the rest of the config in that config setting such as replaces, but it will do the rest of the config, like blocks and what ever else is in the config

Maybe you should think about the same thing

Lets see if I should add my Two Cents here

Alright now KM you have the most popular server out basically since it is so "easy" to configure but oh so many surpass yours
If buffer overflows are so simple to come by with your server you need to fix something..
Its kinda terrible knowing if someone has a join room flood bot (Fix joins ahhh)
And they can just crash your server that way =/
Only thing good I have seen come from you KM about WCS is the amount of channel names I have sat here for ages and exploited it in many many rooms before most dont ever remove the default admin passwords =/
So fix it maybe you can become popular once again

I dont mess with others rooms I simply find out what exploits there are and find out which is better to host with

Well to be honest, any good host doesnt change configs on the room that is running, i have been a room host for 2 years and recently stopped hosting, but everytime i changed anything in the config it was always done on another server. Thats good practice, and although something like that might be annoying its not the end of the world if you use your head.
