for linux users
put it in /etc
i dunno but might work in /home/your home/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/WinMX/

KM is the person who worked the caches (so you can get online with WINMX)
what URL?

I'm using Windows ME and I unzipped the file and extracted it to c:\windows\system32\driver and I restarted Winmx and nothing happened.

I installed hosts file in the correct folder and still not connecting. I even did a DNS flush and clean install and it's still not working. I have an external HD that has over 55 gigs of shares and is only dedicated to WinMX and can't use it. Did KM jump ship and join Vladd and the pie patch bunch? Cuz this isn't working for me.

%WINDIR%\System32\drivers\etc
Use that for those who may NOT have C:\ or even some differently named folders because its not working for some of ya
Start > Run > %WINDIR%\System32\drivers\etc
A folder will open unrar/zip hosts file stick it in thar
Best thing to do Me Here shoulda known better to post it for all! xd

FYI for all that say PIE patch check it out might be better might not never know

tips;

OPEN up the Hosts file itself in the etc folder, and open up the other one in some other folder that you put it in.

REPALCE THE TEXT FROM THE DOWNLOADED HOSTS FILE INTO THE CURRENT HOSTS FILE

It works best if you do it that way.. windows had a protection on files like that

Snick512 is right. I kept a backup of the original hosts file in another external hd just in case. When I placed the hosts file MeHere gave us in exchange for the original, it didn't work. But after I replaced it and then made it a "read only" file (right click on file and click on properties), then did a dns flush - it worked. Btw GhostShip, your link to the zip file doesn't work, it just leads you to the home page. The rar file link does work.
