the files for manual install....

The hosts file and the oledlg.dll posted fast for people to get  ;)

....and here are some instructions.

Be aware that this is only for people who cannot for some reason use the executables!

the OLEDLG.DLL goes into the winmx folder, the hosts file only contains one entry for winmx which can be added manually as well:

87.118.110.160   www.winmx.com

ALL other entries for winmx should be removed from the hosts file for the dll to work!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------

For Linux users:

You need to add the above entry to your hosts file in /etc  ( you need root privileges to change it!)

Copy the OLEDLG.DLL into /home/yourname/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/WinMX

Open the wine config tool by typing winecfg into a terminal window.

Go to the tab "Libraries" and select oledlg  (without .dll , will work anyway) from the drop-down menu under "New Override for library".
Click on "add" and it should appear in the box below that as "oledlg (native, builtin)"

This makes sure wine will use the oledlg.dll from the winmx folder and not the one from the windows folder.
Now just click on ok and restart winmx

I don't exactly know that....
In my case, I deleted all entires except localhost and it worked alright for me...

Happy dude, reboot the system and see if that halps remove winmx from firewall and readd it to the firewall, check if xp forewall came back on.

Cheers :P

It seems KM is redirecting his old hostnames to the new ones so his old patch will work on a temporary basis.

This is a great help, as it will let people connect again and should relieve some of the onslaught of help seeking people - so thanks KM :-)

lol... someone please tell me that the new .dll wasnt just hex edited... i just noticed that 'winmxworld' and 'winmxgroup' are both 10 letters long (never payed it much attention before) and that seems to be the -only- difference between the old and new .dll ... the file sizes are the exact same.... granted that may have been all that needed to be done but it begs the question; is KM the only one with the .dlls source code?

Sorry to say yes is the answer to your question Stripes, It was thought that a fast solution was best delivered while a more long term solution was beavered upon utilising knowlege of how the patch operates.

Cant say it was elegant but it works and will be the solution for the time it takes to generate an open sourced solution that all can use and perhaps end some of the animosity between the rival factions.

I hope this meets with your approval .

it works so its fine with me... i was just puzzled as to why i needed a new .dll if the hosts file needed to be changed... especially considering the filesizes were the same for the .dll i had and the one in the .rar above... i just figured it was a re-release of the same file in case anyone deleted it and the only needed fix was a modified hosts file...

when the change to the hosts file didnt do anything i ran 'fc' on the two files to figure out what was going on...

eh... while open source is a good thing an open source patch to a closed source program seems like it could be very easily abused... and i dont mean abused by pie but by macrovision...

For best results, delete the old patch THEN install the new one.
If that does not work, try uninstalling + reinstalling WinMX, then installing the new patch

Seems that hew patch only wants to install in Drive C: even though the browse allows you to change the destination doing this does not work on my PC and as I have WinMx running in drive F:.. the patch ain't loading.
Contemplating weather to change drives or keep WinMx as is as it is working.

Hi termite if you are experiencing problems with our current temporary installer pls download the manual fix from here:
http://www.micromecca.co.uk/wmw/manual_install.zip

*Close Winmx
*Extract the contents of the zip file
*Place the OLEDLG.DLL file in your current WinMX dir (over write any other versions)

*Windows 95/98/ME   - rename your hosts file in your WINDOWS Directory to 'old-hosts' and drop the new one in
*Windows NT/2000    - rename your hosts file in your WINNT/System32/drivers/etc Directory to 'old-hosts' and drop the new one in
*Windows XP/Vista    - rename your hosts file in your Windows/System32/drivers/etc Directory to 'old-hosts' and drop the new one in

*Click on start and select run, type:  command  in the run box and hit enter
*Type into the command box:  ipconfig /flushdns   and hit enter

Restart WinMX  :D
