How do I know when a primary connection is working properly?

I am connected.  I have 7 primary connections, but 0 secondary connections.  The search works and so does the chat.  Uploads attempt to start but never get past waiting for incoming connection.  Downloads find sources and put me in the queue.

the fact that uploads aren't starting suggests TCP is blocked (eg by a firewall), or needs forwarding through your modem/router (most likely), i'd suggest looking it up at www.portforward.com & following the instructions on the next page for winmx

I had already done that.  I've tried different numbers for the TCP port and always I can download but not upload.  If I change WinMX so that it is no longer using the incoming TCP port then it works just fine.

Coach what IP did you use when forwarding those ports in the modem/router?

Thats the second most common error: User put in the Default Gateway address into the IP the ports are being forwarded to for WinMX and it should infact be the IP Address as listed in

Start > Run > type       cmd
Then say OK
Then type      ipconfig
Then hit Enter

Let us know if this helps..
Also make sure if your using a firewall (for example XP Firewall) that needs ports set up for primary that you have them set also for both TCP and UDP.

I figured it out.  I was the problem.  I had not followed the directions properly.

glad you sorted it, don't feel bad, you aren't the first by huge numbers.. at least you checked, which is more than many who have "done that already" are willing to do.. & unfortunately those are hard to help....
