I have added the ip range to my sygate to block it as i see a few mention their routers couldnt handle it, i have noted 1000 blocks a second as soon as my FX connects! its a hell of a dos attack small packes but loads of them and no doubt Km trying to prove his point about the software on the current cache servers not being up to the job of stopping a dos attack as he is proving,

well thats good news.....however now the question is....is it safe to use ?

i hate to rain on everyones parade here...but KM hasnt done much in order to receive any trust on programs he has released....ill just wait with moving to WCS untill im sure its safe to use and that it wont harm the network in any other way

Get the new WCS 1.8 final build that has been posted. It has the bug fixed, once everyone updates to it. The problem will be gone, and it'll be a thing of the past.

One thing the current attack from some wcs chat server versions has highlighted is that it seems the current cache server software is not able to stop a dos attack which is what maybe KM was trying to prove, I hope the problem is sorted before one of the cartels takes advantage and launches a massive attack on the network

its wasnt a dos, it was just a elivated amount of traffic that usually runs threw the network, just some of it was now poisend by wcs to read incorrect ip address of people actually online, this did increase work load but mainly on the primarys, not the peer cache servers, all the efect was on the caches was them sometimes returning non exsistant ip address's making your connection times increase, after adding the range to the caches problem solved. But it was still a problem, especially for the room hosts who where handling many more queries than they would normally have to cope to with. but seen as most of the servers have now been upgraded to not have to cope with any of these problems most can settle down to enjoying their chatrooms again.

I for one will not be using the new WCS, I wont be recommending it either and I have a few reasons why. I cant in good conscience knowing KM as I do believe that he took this amount of time to fix a typo in code causing this (according to him) and yet when it was throwing users out on rc5 version for ASCII characters in names it took him less then 24hours to fix, so its my believe this was either a desired effect or once noticed he didnt bother because it was a desired effect on users and the caches. Secondly, it was brought to my attention last nite that hes offering a default config file for download on his site and that hes placed portions of my name in it in order to cause problems for me entering rooms that have not changed this:

This seems to me about the most pathetic thing Ive seen during all of this and proves to me that at some point during all the pressure he was under hes completely lost all respect for his position and is abusing ppl at will now.

First he cant fix a typo and then we see this along with no doubt other hidden functions in store for those using KM,s only weapon left to launch attacks with.

Anyone seriously thinking of using WCS is not thinking of the networks health but are just being lazy and selfish, I dont intend to mince words on this, I say do not use it and we can all rest happy in the knowledge another network attack wont be launched without the hosts knowledge as we have seen for the last month or so.

I would like to call upon Km to close the web site NOW thats displaying everyones ip when they search for a file or refresh the chat rooms listing, ok this may seem harmless to some but i know of people who have seen this site and they will not use winmx now as they have been scared off it, is this what the aim of the site is ? CLOSE IT BEFORE WE LOOSE ANYMORE FROM WINMX PLZ

Yes sorry i wasnt sure if everyone knew about this site run by Km showing everyones ip who uses winmx but it is same web addy as he is now got his new wcs on, its damn low in my opinion doing this, it is scarring genuine winmx users who now feel they are being watched. Come on Km close it please, yes most of us know our ip is on view all over the net but theres no need to have it advertised for all to see and to see what that ip is searching for on winmx. km you did allot of good things for winmx now your doing things to harm and convincing people that your programmes are also not to be trusted, please stop your spoling it for us all.

well i do not believe for 1 second he has fixed the bug, i think he has hidden it, also the port used 65535 is a backdoor trojan port called rc port 65432 is a backdoor for a trojan called trator in case you think of using that port.
i have to agree with Me_Here and i will not recomend wcs to anyone.
pick a server we know is ok,
also it has come to light that on some anti-virus & firewall updates, they are finding fxs1.3.10better as a trojan in its programmimg, so if you use it, i suggest a change.

The site itself and the ips it posts or the search criteria it shows are not so much important as the fact of who is doing it. You can search for content all day long and they could never do a thing to you. It's the actuall act of downloading that's frowned on by the RIAA. In my opinion the fact that KM would do this just is another example of a man who for whatever reason has decided to spite WinMX and it's users if for no other reason than to show he can. Most P2Ps broadcast your ip address anyway. It's a reason I never use the ones that do. The knowledge to obtain a user's ip address on WinMX has always been there for anyone willing to look for it anyway. Just be a responcible user is about the best advice anyone could give now.

Please do remember also that you can make and save almost any file and if what makes up that file has similar text or code to a virus then an anti-virus can tick off on it as trojan or virus. Best advice is to check it thoroughly and be sure what it is. After all Avast ticks off on settings.dat in the WinMX folder as it thinks it's a DAME trojan and has since before there was a pie patch or a dll patch, but as I'm sure you know it isn't.
