starting people manualy for uploads = rightclick on username and select "Start transfer"

however u mention that the option isnt there anymore... so maybe this works ?

rightclick on the winmx icon in your taskbar and choose "reset all windows" perhaps this will restore winmx to its former glory ;)  if this fails then i suggest a reboot and if this still doesnt do the trick then a full reinstall of winmx might be the answer

If God, in his infinite Wisdom, made me an Atheist...then who are you to Question him ?

I've followed Mizz's suggestions and I'm still unable to start some folks' downloading.  BTW, R-clicking "reset all windows" appears to merely resize them; at least, that's what happens on my screen.

PS  Although I do remember using it in past, the "start transfer" feature seems to have disappeared on my version of WinMX, as well.   :?

For uploads (people downloading from your files) Ive never seen WinMX not to have that and changes would have to be made in the WinMX.exe files in order for it to be gone..

Using 3.54 beta 4.  Tell me how to access "start transfer".  I can't find it.

Bue in the lower half of the screen (uploads section) once a person is established a connection and sitting in your que you can right click that user name.  If its not connected yet or times out you cant do it.. has to establish first.

If your talking about the top half of your transfers screen (downloads) then you will only see that option if your files are 'Locally Queued' meaning that your trying to get more files then you yourself have allowed in File Transfers > Queueing > Max Total Downloads..

If its locatlly queued (not to be mistaken for remotely queued meaning qued on the other users end) then you can right click and start transfers.

I'm talking about the lower/"upload" screen.  Multiple events of this upload problem have been occurring daily for about two months, now.  I can send and receive messages to the user; they report appropriate settings to upload files, ports are open, etc., to no avail.  It appears that these users are connecting; yet, the outcome is "connection refused".  In addition, R-clicking an unsuccessful user, browsing their files, and attempting a download, yeilds "connection refused".  My total # of downloads has been set at 10 w/additional (up/dwnld queue options set at 6 & 6.  Last weekend, hoping to correct this problem, I reinstalled WinMX.  Another host suggested changing my total # of downloads to 20 and queue values to 3 & 3; I adjusted # of total downloads to 20 w/queue values of 6 & 3.  Changes appear to have no effect.  My bandwidth does not appear to be problematic.  Can you shed light?

Connection refused can be from a few things.. so Its best to just go over the list and make sure all is set up correctly..

My first thought is whether or not you have a router or dsl modem that needs configurations and are those correct.  So if you could tell me this:

What operating system do you use?
What name and model of your modem and/or router?
Are you cable or DSL?
What firewalls do you use?

I think we can get this sorted for you with a bit of reconfigurtions..

XP Pro
D-Link 01-524
cable
Windows firewall

I went to the ports forwarding site and thought I followed directives, but may have missed something.  I don't think Armstrong Onewire (cable) is interfering; but, again, anything is possible.  Windows firewall is configured with WinMX as an exception.  Perhaps, I need to add an additional exception?  WinMX used to work w/o a hitch.  I appreciate your help.

Ok Bluepup, lets just make sure its all set up correctly..

For WinMX settings go to Incoming TCP, set this to the top option and port number 6699.
Now click on In/Out UDP and top option port number 6257.

Close WinMX completely if you adjusted the above settings.

For your router we must have the machines IP address being assigned by the router.. so lets double check that at this time.

Go to Start > Run > Type in              cmd
Click OK
In this new black box type            ipconfig
Hit Enter.
Make a note of the IP Address as listed here.
Close that box.

Now open the router configurations via Internet Explorer or your web browser and navigate to the Advanced > Virtual Server pages.

Make sure that you have two rules set up for WinMX.  Incase your unsure about this here is how they should look

Name: WinMXtcp (or any name here you wish)
Private IP:  (the IP Address i asked you to take note of, be sure not to use the Default Gateway Adddress here, the gateway is for accessing the router only)
Protocol: TCP
Private Port: 6699
Public Port: 6699
Schedule Always
and now apply or make sure your previous one matches this ..

Second one as follows:
Name: WinMXudp
Private IP: same as above mentioned
Protocol: UDP
Private Port: 6257
Publick Port: 6257
Schedule Always
Apply.

Now close these configurations after double checking no typos exist..and Open Your FIrewall configuration in Control Panel.
Click on the Exceptions page and highlight WinMX on the list.  (if more then one exists just remove all but one and use it)
Once highlighted click 'Add Port' and add TCP port 6699
Then say OK
Hightlight WinMX on the list again in exceptsions and do the same for your UDP port of 6257.

Restart WinMX now in either primary or secondary which ever you prefer, and see if its not allowing more uploads..
Post back with questions or to let me know

I think I need more direction.  I'm unsure about proceeding after opening the router configurations.  Clicking on "Advance" opens a miriad of results, one of which is DI-624, but that's not my router.  Mine is DI-524.  There is a "Live Search" feature on the 1st page of router configurations.  Typing "Advance>Virtual Server pages" into the "Live Search" feature yeilds 3666 results.  I didn't see anything that looked like setting up rules for WinMX.

(in giving me technical directives, it is advisable to assume that 'poor thang don't know nothin'.)

LoL..

Ok Bluepup, I assumed you knew how to access those pages but here is what you need to do.. I believe acording to the guide on Portforward that your Default Gateway Address should be:  192.168.0.1
(earlier when you got your IP Address the Default Gateway was listed there also if you need to make sure thats correct)

Open a Web Browser and where you see the http : //www.whateversiteyouopened.com   << erase all that and type in that Default Gateway IP.
Next you should see a page prompting you for a login.  If you still see search results your still in the wrong place.

By default the username is admin and the password is blank(nothing). Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Once logged in you should click the Advanced button near the top, then scroll down the list on the left and click on the Virtual Sever Button.  From there you should be able to follow the above posted directions..

Just so you know Bluepup we dont mind helpin so if your still stuck just post back.. we dont expect everyone to be an IT expert here..

Thank you.  Thank you.  I think it's finally a done deal.

I did not know that I should use the default gateway setting, rather than my private IP address to access router configurations.  In addition, in past when using the ports forwarding site, I must have done somethings incorrectly and/or misunderstood the site's directives.

Your instructions are excellent.  I hope you will add them, along with details, to tutorials.  Patience is a virtue; you'll likely have an extra pearl in your gate...

Actually Bluepup as far as I can be exact I think i have been in the tutorial located here:

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

Of course each model is different and I've done enough of them with folks to understand some common errors and such.. we also have one for the firewall settings too.. and although I'll be the first to admit the tutorials are not perfect, this isn't the first time you mentioned them.. So I would really like to know what you think is lacking in them and see if I can either get that accounted for or point you in the right direction ..

Im thrilled its working and if you have any other problems do post back ..   :)

I'm thrilled, too!  Now, no uploads are receiving "connection refused"!  Me Here, honey, you done good.

Before using the forum query, I looked through tutorials for solutions to uploading problems.  Among the tutorials I read, either they did not address my issue or were not clear to me.  (recall, this poor thang don't know nothing)  As for suggestions, clairfying each step, as you have done, usually works best -- and, as you seem to grasp, when conceptionalizing, most use linier processing skills.  Perhaps, supervisors could exchange tutorials for review before posting.  Better yet, composers could ask friends and family members (surely, some of you know some poor thangs) to read and execute procedures.  Such might be helpful in finding the holes.

Again, thanks.  pup

lol.. ok fair enough.. your correct about the lack of general 'help' within the tutorials sections they are generally for guides to set ups for various things rather then actual help with trouble shooting.  We have been and still are (its all my fault its not done) working on a more trouble shootin type of help section which happens to be a HUGE project to get finished because as you have mentioned before about a basic set up for all users.. frankly WinMX is so versitile that it cant be done in one page, in other words the help doesnt usually 'fit all' .. but I appreciate your feed back.

The guides are usually given to laymen like yourself before they go live but of course nothings perfect.. lol

In any case Im glad your up and running ..

Ever since the last crash I cannot ul to anybody.  I have the newest patch but that doesn't seem to do a whole heck of a lot of good.  I know just enough about computers to be dangerous   If someone can please talk me through this in plain english, that would be a fantastic help.  I've read the other posts concerning upload issues and when I right click on someone in queue, the option of start transfer does not appear, in fact WinMX never does grab ahold of them.
