September 8th WinMx Problem - Please Read
« on: September 08, 2007, 07:25:00 am »
For those suffering a problem today we apologise, this was due to a corrupt blocklist that hit the system

Our advice is to reinstall your dll patch to clear corrupt blocklist data thats been downloaded by it, should take you less than a minute and all should be fine.

https://patch.winmxconex.com/

for those in a rush on 3.54  :)

click me

Some users may find closing MX and waiting some minutes will clear the corrupt data, but reinstalling is actually faster in most cases  :).

The new patch seems to have resolved the open nap connection issue too.
Thank you  :D

I monitored the open nap servers for a few minutes and it looks like they keep going off and on.

It looks like the problem was caused by the scan that the program does when you add new shared folders to library.

Hi Swaggie

Sometimes with swapping over from pie. You will need to make sure pie is off your computer system. To do this go to control panel and go to add/remove programs and clear pie upgrade from their.

Also go here:  https://patch.winmxconex.com/ and try a complete install. Called Install for WInMX v3.54 Patched.

One of these ways should work. Please post back and let us know how you go.

Have the same problem. Windows XP Pro Corp SP2
* Add/Remove prgrams shows winmx as 'WinMX 3.54 beta 4 Patch level: 3.0 mod 2a'
* Instal from newest site, new instal package used
* System boot
* New instal patched again
* Hosts file replaced with backed-up version copied just prior to instal of PIE.

PIE 3.5 was installed temporarily to overcome the September 8 connection failure and inability to stay in chat room.

the best way to sort it is to go to add and remove progs as shown in the post by silicon_toad2000 earlier then go to your installed winmx folder and delete it completly and do a fresh install
if there is still a problem  go to start>>> search >>> all types of files and folders and type in pie and this will find any pie instalations hideing up on your pc and you can delete these also

Be sure also that if you have any programs running that might protect your hosts file such as spybot search and destroy or spyshredder etc that those are off when you install, then turn them back on after wards..

A search for PIE revealed none on the system.  I don't use Sybot or similar. Virus/spyware scanners were inactive during instal of winmx.

I uninstalled WinMX again (using add/remove programs) and searched for other instances of winmx... and found this ..

WINMXKILLER.EXE-106EAF04.pf
WINMX.EXE-2C784E5F.pf

Both prefetch files are located in Windows\prefetch folder

What are they ? WINMXKILLER looks ominous... are they a normal part of winmx instal ?

Hi Aussie Girl

Can I ask what operating system you are using?

XP Pro Corp SP2

Firewall active with winmx allowed. No troubles with winmx until Sept 8, PIE was a temp measure to keep me connected because I couldn't stay in a chat room on that particular day.. now I just can't get rid of the PIE update bar. WinMX otherwise seems to be working fine. I'm dial-up so therefore a secondary connection.

delete manualy instead of from add and remove programs go to c/drive  >>>> program files >>>>winmx folder  <<<< delete this folder completley  also delete cookies and temp files  & check for any instances of pie on your pc
even delete the winmc icons from your start menu and desktop if you have them there

eg add and remove/search function etc make sure you delete the pie installer and do a complete fresh install make sure you delete everything 1st or you are just installing over whats there and not nessasarily installing fresh

the WINMXKILLER.EXE-106EAF04.pf is nothing to wory about it is a file that closes winmx as it should when installing the new patch

Cookies didn't make a difference, but clearing temporary internet files did. Patch online. Thanks for your help.
