I have described this before, so I apologize for asking again, but the problem is continuing.

Does anyone know why this problem is happening: a single user at a time keeps uploading the same file repeatedly. It may be deliberate, or is it a bug with Winmx? I get this a lot, like every day sometimes, or at least several times a week, with different identities. I can't tell if it's different people or one person renamed.

One of the reasons I suspect a bug is because (if you look at the cropped jpg I've provided) the completed upload is often many times larger than the size of the file; see the last upload in the list for an example.

I'd hate to be putting people on my Ignore list if they are not doing anything wrong but instead it's actually a bug in the mx program or the servers. Does anyone have any ideas what is happening, and why the Upload size is so huge in some cases? Is this problem happening to anyone else?

ok first of all from looking at this screen shot

1. you have these files shared twice, they have been uploaded to the opennap server your on twice
2. as mentioned before the same person is not only trying from all servers you are both on but also each file from those (you have two copies shared).

Its them doing it but do they realize no, i get this all day when i use open nap.. i have ppl que entire albums several times from each server they are on.

Here is what happens.. when your a regular winmx user and your doing a search for a file and you click one, and others turn yellow that is the magic color right? Means that those files match and you can que them all and get the file faster? Its called multi source downloading.. one problem this same color happens with each server that has a copy of your file (that is your on Ballad, Napster Friends, and DarkServers, and so are they on all three) So when they search they are not paying attention to the fact its the same file, they simply think its multi sourced and will get them the files faster.

So basically what Im saying ive said before, this is something that many many hundreds of OpenNap users do and its a mistake on their part that WInMX has conditioned them to get all excited when they see all those other files turn Yellow.

Now i usually try to message these ppl, and sometimes get a response and have to explain this to them, however even doing that it happens to me daily while i Use open nap, and in fact is the reason I will only use one at a time for any length of time.

Second thing is to resahre your files. When you do be sure to either not share all folders one by one OR be sure to untick the 'share sub folders' tick at the bottom of the file types box that comes up when sharing the folders.

You definitely are sharing some files twice or they couldnt que up on them twice from the same OpenNap Server.

Hope this helps you some, frankly this will be a constant battle for you and as I said its why I only use one Nap at a time...

Thank you, that has shed a lot of light onto the situation.

I recently had to re-install my C drive, which meant re-installing WinMX. I had forgotten I needed to untick the Sub-folders. I have now removed and re-added my folders, being careful to untick the Sub-folders, so the twice-sharing problem is now removed. I have also scaled back the servers to just two; I figure I can live with that.

I would like to ask a further question though: in the sample pic I have supplied above, the uploaded files on the SAME server show in duplicate; one is normal size, the other is astronomical, like 70 megs upload for an 8 meg file. Any suggestions what this is? Is someone really wasting 70 megs of their service, or is it some sort of misreporting by MX or the servers?

In answer to Bluepup, the reason I had put people in the Ignore list was because the repeat uploads were limiting bandwidth for other Uploaders, as well as cluttering my screen with worthless bumff. Since most of my troubles appear to have been my mistakes by including sub-folders as well as having too many servers, I shall clear my Ignore list and see how it goes.

Well Trestor, in answer to your second question.. wow.. thats just odd.. LOL

I have no idea whats causing it to report to be over 8x the size it actually is for that.. I would assume though it maybe a bug with the server since Ive never seen that in WinMX.. but I wont swear on that..

We have also seen some odd things with Vista, and Im not going to say that person is on it..or this caused it but the thing that comes to mind (maybe have 0 to do with this) is how on some Vista users machine files show as Incomplete for ever, they never seem to register in WinMX that the file has actually completed and the names change from Incomplete to just filename. Now maybe.. just maybe its also causing issues with the client they are using.. remember they may not be on WinMX per say.. and its just adding to the same file? .. anyway just a theory ..
