Opps, I didn't realize it was the same codec pack or I wouldn't have posted it again. That just goes to show that if both of us recommended it that it's the best one to get. I've never needed another codec after I installed k-lite.  :)

Hi all

   What to say??

I now have a million codecs, my "avi"s play fine, but when I try to convert them with either dvdsanta or winavi I get the error message that they have encountered a problem and must close.

I am begining to suspect sabotage......

Other downloaded avi's convert no problem by the way

  A very puzzeled Pancakes

Hi Pancakes

Before I go any further are you trying to burn onto a CD or DVD. This is important to know so that we do not give you the wrong information.

Hi Silicon

I'm trying to burn them onto DVD (so I can watch them with the family on the TV). In case you had'nt noticed I am no expert, but with something idiot proof like dvdsanta, you just plug an avi file in one end, and burn a dvd at the other (with menues and all that stuff if you want) I think WinAVI does something similar.

My problem is that neither of them will do it with the latest two episodes i have downloaded (both simply get 2 or 3 seconds into the process then up comes the error message "dvdsanta or WinAVI has encountered a problem and must close" Which it then does. Initially it was closeing my media players as well, but downloading extra codecs (mostly thanks to divx I think), stopped that.

Hope this is helpful

Hi Pancakes

I will go slow and post step by step as we go along. As I think I know what your problem is but I am not a 100% sure. Ok here is the next thing I would like you to look at. Some DVD burners only like to burn on -R or +R. These are written on the DVD case. What I would like you to do is to look at these and find out which one you have and go and buy the other one (you can just buy one for memory, I know I can here).

I have had this problem before and it wouldnt burn on to a particular dvd if is was -R.

Just use Dvd Santa to burn and try it. I am not 100% sure if this is the problem but it could be worth ago.

Please post back and let me know how you go.

Hi Silicon

My burner uses DVD-R I have burnt (literally) hundreds of DVD's on it. The problem is occuring long befor the burn phase, within 3 or 4 seconds of the start of the encoding (conversion from AVI to is it vob??)

Ok pancakes let me try and help you out a lil.....

Firstly you could just of downloaded VLC player and used that to play all your movie files.(mind you the k-lite codec pack is in my view the best out there)

Now as for your converting and burning issues theres a simple answer to all this (that is hoping you aint tried it allready)
Remove DVD Santa and Winavi (both are good apps but not all have great results with them)
Now look for a app called  ConvertXtoDVD     this will convert and burn ur movie file for you to a dvd
It has a simple user interface and is user friendly
It is  DVDR  DVD+R DVD-R and DVDRW compatable to,
It also has all its own codecs it needs to work with your files built into it (this does away with the need for other codecs)
You should have sucess with this as all i have sent to try this app have all got it to work just fine
And as a side note this app is  Vista compatable to   :P

Give it ago and let me know how you get on...

Hi MacDaddy

 SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

 Thank You very much indeed.

I feel almost ashamed to ask if anyone has a key.............

Thanks to everyone for all the help

By the way, does the little message from the LMAO at the bottom of my screen mean i am in trouble, or just that someone is trying to scare me?

If its v2.2.3.258
you could perhaps try a random set & numbers or letters such as these below

** 'random numbers' edited out **

perhaps they might work as they did for me
