Some rooms have a no files policy where you will get kicked for no files try sharing some files then try re-entering these rooms..... if you have files shared check your library and try refreshing them as sometimes they dont always show after loading them.

about the time outs ....is it with all files or just some?

Have you forwarded ports?
This can be done here
http://www.portforward.com/
If you leave your router/modem make and model i will give you the exact link

what security are you running?
This will sometimes have an effect on uploads/downloads if not set correctly

Just one more thing who is your isp ?

There is a section on the forum for vista problems etc that can be found at the link below

Go to the link below and set up using the instructions provided and see if this makes a diffrence
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG834G/WinMX.htm

if not try running with windows firewall off for a little while just to eliminate that it might be blocking

I'm having trouble downloading. I can search, get a hit but I can't connect. I get disconnected. Some users downloading from me are successful others are not, they get connection timed out. This just started a couple of days ago. I checked previous posts and followed all suggestions to no avail. I do not use a router and have cable hookup. I downloaded and executed the latest patch. Any ideas?

Sounds possibly  like isp throttling/blocking software  ........ what isp do you have ? ....... try changing ports and giving it a go see if that makes any difference...... also what security are you using and have you updated it lately and if so does that co-incide with the problems you are now having ?

I restored my computer to a previous day and reloaded  WinMX and everything seems to be okay. I don't know what caused the problem. Thanks for your interest and help.

Try running with the norton off for a while  & see if that makes a difference as its possible a update is blocking or something....especialy as norton is a pain in the ass with p2p at times.

If this is not the case then try reinstalling winmx from the link below using the setup for existing installs
 https://patch.winmxconex.com/

What is the model of your router so we can  make sure that ports are forwarded (something that has probably been done before but doesn't hurt to double check)

That's just a single connection problem where it could be down to the other person ( something that's not so uncommon.).... perhaps keep an eye on the connections and let us know if things get irregular at certain times etc.

BTW if you still want to check ports the link for your router is below

I am 62 and still trying to get my head around this, I have managed to find nearly all of my old music from this site and I cannot thank you all enough for this site. Keep up the great work guy's and thanks again.
