China Retaliates Against US Piracy Claims
« on: December 17, 2007, 08:04:27 am »
It seems the Chinese government has a few tricks up it's sleeve to deal with the MPAA and its rhetoric.

http://www.businessofcinema.com/boc/?file=story&id=6208

Quote
MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman released the following statement in response to reports that the Chinese government may be blocking American films from being imported into China.

"It is increasingly clear that China may have instituted a block on the import of American films into their country. Although we have not received official confirmation of such a ban from the Chinese government or China Film, the indicators are strong that our information is correct. If such action has been taken, or is in the process of being taken, it would represent an enormous step backwards in terms of China's efforts to develop a strong and most importantly, legitimate film exhibition and distribution market. We are working with top officials in the US government, including the Treasury Secretary, as well as the Trade Representative and Secretary of Commerce, both of whom are in China at the moment. If these reports are true, it is unacceptable that China has taken this action and we will bring all our resources and leverage to bear to address this situation."

It's clear that the Chinese govt have now decided to play the global polics game themselves and are holding all the cards.
For years now the MPAA have ben happy to accuse other countries of rampant piracy while turning a blind eye to its own domestic piracy figures, having a big trading partner turn on you because you repeatedly called them a nation of theives is par for the course in politics and unless we see some backtracking on the rhetoric used by the MPAA and a promise to stop making veiled threats to disrupt Chinese ambitions in other areas the US controls, I can see no change to this new secret policy of not wanting to play with Hollywoods toys.

Where will it end ?

lmao this is what hollywood deserves!

Funny, how they scream "we want piracy in China to end!"
So the Chinese ban all US films, and that solves the problem.
Now the US is screaming "That's unacceptable! We must force them to get our films so that piracy will keep happening!"

lmao lmao

I don't blame the Chinese. They did the right thing. Maybe this will send a message back here to hollywood so that they see how ridiculous their campaign of accusation has really been.
