Teen Content Sharing On The Increase
« on: December 21, 2007, 07:13:52 pm »
Just when the RIAA/MPAA think they have all the cards in their hand yet more news arrives to demonstrate the futility of their effforts to halt the spread of technology and social file sharing.

Examining the details in a new Teens and Social Media report from the Pew Internet & American Life Projectr, reveals that with all this online socializing, teens are actually more conscious than ever of how and with whom they share their content.

In summary, 93 percent of US teens use the Internet now in some way. Many of the general numbers are up from Pew's 2004 study: 39 percent of these teens share their own artistic creations like artwork, photos, stories, or videos (up from 33 percent in 2004), 28 percent have created their own online journal or blog (up from 19 percent), and 26 percent remix content they find online for their own creations (also up from 19 percent).

Altogether, that makes up for 64 percent of online teens, or 59 percent of all teens that are creating something on the web.

It always warms my heart to hear folks are generating their own content and sharing it online for others to experience, this is after all what we should strive to encourage folks to do, most social sites mentioned above are more like address books, boring and easily harvested to the detriment of the posters there, winmx chat on the other hand delivers an experience of community one-on-one that far outstrips anything else out there in terms of making a space for yourself online that you can call home, add to that the ability to get an instant trusted opinion on a drawing/picture you made or a study your writing for college or even some feedback on some musical project you want to share with folks and its a clear winner.

Les be honest though regarding this report, it looks like it was generated after a trawl of one of the facebook style sites and may be good news for those wishing to place advertising material, but in terms of stating the real figures for youth productivity they only need to take a look at places like this forum where we see both Emulator and Zenar currently representing the youth group and KM just leaving it, to say we rely on the support of the younger generation is not an understatement and I suspect the percentages are more than those stated if what I have experienced in the last few years is any measure of growth.

In short I suggest a big pat on the back for both older or younger P2P users who turn out their own content and share it with the rest of us, Cheers to you all  8)
