Just a thought, if a person heard about winmx and found their way to this site theres nothing on the front page to say download winmx here with a link, if its a new person wanting to get onto winmx how do they know where to get winmx and the patch to connect it, they cannot go to the help room as they don't have winmx at this point. maybe a link on the front page to download winmx for newcomers may be usefull

We would also like to have a nice link to the filtering patch on our front page Birdman but it seems the patch coder KM has decided no one can distribute the patch, at the moment he is threatening users sharing the patch online by stating he will contact their ISP if they dont give in to him and in 5 cases at least has done so.

I dont intend to go into great depth about the matter as he has made it patently clear he will not explain his actions lucidly, our continuing view is simply that he gave something to the community and we are all very grateful for that but now wishes to take back what he gave publicly, unlike any other person who has contributed to the health of the network, I do however wish him well for the future.

Why don't you finish working on the rumored patch that you are working on & create your own new cache software,? So you don't have to rely on KM's patch or cache software, then you can have a link on the home page of the site to download a Winmxworld working patch. If you do that he won't be issuing DMCA letters to people who host his patch cos you won't be using his patch anymore.

Yes i have sadly followed the problems over the patch and fully understand the position it leaves you in. But how about a link to actually download winmx on the front page and a notice to come to the help room once installed    you see iam thinking about the person who has never installed winmx and finds this web site looking to get winmx for the first time.

I just did a google search   download winmx, none of the main sites list and i have never heard of the sites that do   you got to feel sorry for someone looking to get winmx for the first time

So basically what I'm suggesting is on the main page a link to download winmx 3.53 FOR FREE, and on the same page info how to install winmx and also once installed how to get to the help room to get winmx connected, this being aimed at a new person  wanting to get use winmx for the first time.

Also how about using the patch on line bar for getting important messages to the comunity, for example a notice to rooms hosts using wcs version ....... click here  linked to a page to ask them to upgrade their wcs and reasons why just run for a few weeks maybe

There might be a good reason why this won't work, but I'll suggest it anyway.

I wonder if it might be possible to try a different approach that would not infringe on using the patch.

Might it be feasible to have a downloadable winmx browser and some downloadable opennap servers on the home page? I've found that winmx works quite well without the patch if one uses opennap instead of the winmx peer network.

The problem for getting started with opennap has always been first getting the opennap servers to use, as they don't come with winmx. One has had to use wpn to search for the opennap servers, which has meant having to use the patch to be connected to the wpn. Because the patch is not now being distributed, newbies hit a brick wall.

If opennap servers were to be provided on the home page, the patch would not be needed. When a new patch is written the wpn could be accessed again.

This new approach would have the added benefit of totally removing Mr Macro's power base, since his patch wouldn't be used anymore.

I don't know all there is to know about this subject, so I could be wrong. Can someone say why this idea wouldn't work?

I,m sure the idea is feasible but ... yeah the famous but 

Having been around a while and listened to the stories of many of the older crowd I am aware of a major drawback in the plan, I,m not wishing to detract from opennnap but it has server size limitations and provides a central point of disruption for the cartel to hit, the loss of decentralisation and its impact on the way the network will operate and be used could mean many will just decide we should call it a day and head off, so whilst technically a fine solution to a stubborn problem Trestor my view is that to head down that road would give the wrong message and have the possibility of further dividing the userbase.

I think that the sooner a new patch is available that meets the requirements of the winmx comunity & is distributed on mass with no prejudice the better  ... then KM can pack his toys up and get the fook out for good instead of letting his grievances with a few people spoil the pleasure of so many.....

Once one the saviours of winmx  now the bain of it with his petty squabbles and childish actions that only serve to piss more and more people off each time he has one of his tantrums..... the sooner his patch is obsolete the better for thousands of people who are affected by his actions each time he spits the dummy.......
 
Someone who done so much good  for the comunity then tries to snatch it away and disrupt whenever possible is nothing more than a spoilt childish little brat who needs a good kick up the ass into reality.... that reality being that he no longer has any integrity left what so ever with the winmx comunity due to his own actions.... we can only hope this guy never gets to be in a position where his actions would affect peoples lives in a serious situation because he has no morels and is lower than a snakes belly in a wheel rut.

nice idea trestor its good to see people thinking of ways to get us away from KM s patch    maybe we should just go to a host file install if the filtering and blocking would work  but i dunno lol see now you got me on about the patch

Thats what you get for mentioning the patch in your original post birdman 

There is an easy solution & that would be for all the takedown notices to be rescinded so that everyone can easily find & enjoy winmx just by looking at the main page ....... but i guess that will never happen hence why the next best thing would be for a new patch that no one can stop from being distributed from here or anywhere else unless the distribution was abused in any way eg pay sites etc

whilst a good idea in principle it would still cause problems ...as any site referenced to by the good people of the winmx help room would no doubt receive takedown notices and/or complaints to there isp thus causing more confusion as to where to get connected.
vicious circle i know but until ....dare i mention it  a patch free from compromise is sorted will be something i guess we are going to have to live with.... but hopefully just for a little while longer.

No problem trestor no need to split this thread though i think my suggestion has raised no interest anyway my main suggestion was not about the patch but rather about having a more visable download winmx here (without the patch) on the main page for people searching to download a free winmx version but mainly for a newbie looking to get and use winmx for the first time.

Not such a bad idea at all birdman it might help to gain some new users of winmx,the only problem
with it is these first time users just might think "what'n the hell is this.... we have to download a program
then visist a chatroom and get a patch??? ...think i'll stick 2 slimewire" .A bit of a hassle for many who
just want to quickly download the program and start downloading some files.But i agree its better than whats there right now

I Know this may be a problem for a lot of newbies but the WnMX patch is listed on torrent sites such as Mininova and Pirate Bay
