Uploads timing out...
« on: April 17, 2008, 10:51:25 am »
I recently switched to broadband, and thanks to the people on these forums, I was quickly up and running again.

However, I have noticed that uploads aren't working. They get as far as waiting to connect, then time out.

I'm using WinMX 3.53, with the WinMX Group Patch applied
3.0mod3-Patch-Only-Setup.exe with Install-3.0-noMX.exe since I'm still using Win 98SE

My computer's defences are AVG and Spybot S & D (which kills the banner on WinMX by owning the hosts file) and I rely on the Firewall in the router as my PC'll probably scream to a halt if I installed one on it.

I connect as secondary, my ports are forwarded and I use the defaults TCP 6699, and UDP 6257. My ISP is BT Broadband.

I tried the unable accept incoming TCP connections, and unable to send receive UDP datagrams, and uploads started working.

Should I just leave it at this, or is there something else I can do?

If you mean installing WinMX from scratch again using

Install for Multi-versions Patched then that was a bit of headache.

AVG said that there was a worm in it, AutoIt.Zl Had to turn off the anti virus to get it to install.

I just installed it over my existing WinMX, and it seems to be fine. The update bar is visible, and I can still download.

Now it's a matter of waiting for someone to try and download from me...

Well, that didn't work...

I've had four people try to download from me, and the result is always the same
Timed out (Waiting for incoming connection)

Ok, all of them were 0 file users. But the principle of the thing is still there.

This sounds to me like its the DSL modem you have now from BT, do you have the typical Home Hub or another make?

You say ports are forwarded but I think its likey there is an error in that somewhere.. if you can give us the name and model of your modem we can get you the guides for it or help with tricks and tips for getting it set correctly.

For the record reinstalling WinMX has never fixed an upload issue, but it can break other things so FYI for anyone reading this its best to deal with the actual problem then to reinstall WinMX.

Problem solved!

Little bit of common sense was needed.

The ports were forwarded correctly in the router.

The mistake was that the settings applied to my laptop, not my desktop that I actully run WinMX from.

I clicked out of the router window, and saw a green upload on the WinMX window.

Thanks for your help though!  :D
