No I am not running either of them. I thought that was the benefit of using the .dll, that I don't have to use them.

No Share your correct about that some folks use other p2ps so they might benefit from both, just wanted  to make sure.

What ports do you have your WinMX set to use ?

Ok my first thoughts on this would be to retry the download of the Install 1.9.exe file.

Try that and let me know if you see this again please...

The errror 'Error opening file for writing' usually means the file is in use. Did you close WinMx before tring to install the patch?

what happens when you try to run winmx?

do you see the "Patch Operational" message at the top left? (or if not, do you see some other message there?)

hmm, i assume you left it for a few minutes and it still didn't connect?

next thing to try is run the installer again, except this time try selecting the windows 9x version instead of the NT version, then let us know if this worked or not, although I honestly can't think of any situation that would cause the "Patch Operational" message but not be able to get you connected (except if you are behind proxies etc, but i think you would have mentioned that :-))

that sounds like you are trying to download a fake file... have you read about getting past the fakes? basicly add -c: -user to your search...

or look here for a much more long winded way of saying the same thing :-) (although it is outdated and only mentiones -c: but -users -c: is better...)

spec i know for sure that we are going to need to know if you are using a router or not??
if you are this could be the cause of your problem.
also are you using a firewall and if so which one?
this info and any other you can add like operating system and if you are on dsl or cable will help us be able to help you fix your problem.

if you are using a router this may need to be your first port of call....
