Two Useful Tools For Problems With Router Settings
« on: April 28, 2009, 11:09:28 pm »
I noticed a few days ago that a new program was available to help folks having issues with setting up a router with WinMX, the first one is able to display your current router set up and allow you to change settings and all you have to do is select your model from the drop down list, looked great to me and also had my router as standard, for those of you who may not find their router on their the program maker has a feature to download new router types for those not already in the program, all in all a very helpful tool to have handy in my opinion, here is where you can find this useful app.

It will of course not be needed for most folks but some folks will likely be very pleased to try this if UPNP is not working well on their router, I hope this saves some time in the help room  :-D

The second tool looks as good as the first and does a simple but vital job, its name speaks for itself. Simple Statip IP

At times there may be a reason you need to have your IP address set to static. A static IP is an IP address that never changes. By default peoples IP is dynamic which means it can change at any time. When port forwarding you forward to your local IP address, and if your IP changes your port forwarding will no longer work as it is not pointing to your new IP. This is the same for nearly all settings in a router that points to your computer, such as DMZ and logging. So to keep that from happening you need to set your IP to static so it never changes, then you no longer have to worry about your IP changing. (This should be done for computers behind a router) The process to set your IP can be intimidating if you have never done it before, that's why we provide this program to you, to make it simple

Once again a simple but useful app  :)

The "Simple Port Forward Tool" also has the ability to enable/disable static IP address from 'Tools' menu
same 'Tools' menu has add to 'Windows firewall exception' .. nice
Shame WinMX is not in the drop down program list.. I just requested it :)
I was surprised to see DD-WRT firmware routers in drop down list
although users of this firmware should have the know how to do this themselves
I setup a test forward and it worked a treat
Could be a very handy tool rather than directing people to portforward page
Good find  8)

There are versions of DD-WRT that have no GUI just the .conf files wich can be tedious to edit. Most likely why its there.
And some newer routers are shipping with DD from factory. Buffalo is one of the bigger names doing this.

ok I got it added for ya.
update the database under the tools menu.
You can also always add your own by clicking on the custom tab when adding a new port
