IFPI Site Under Attack by Pirate Bay Supporters

Today, the international IFPI site is the new target and is suffering from a DDoS attack. At the time of writing the website is completely inaccessible.

The attacks are part of Operation Baylout which also encourages people to send black faxes to the MPAA’s anti-piracy office and movie industry lawyer Monique Wadsted. Thus far, we have no confirmation that any fax machines have been taken down.

The Pirate Bay’s Peter Sunde told TorrentFreak in a comment: “I feel peoples’ frustration. I hope they do something more permanent instead, like making sure the idiots that give power to the media industry lose their own power. We need to cut out the companies abusing copyright at the expense of society’s well-being. But this is not a permanent fix so it’s just pointless.”

Pointless or not, according to the Reg, some 250 hackers are gathering in AnonNet’s IRC channels to discuss their battle strategies and future plans.

Mooncup, one of the root administrators at AnonNet confirmed this and told TorrentFreak: “They seem to be doing it to demonstrate to the record industry that the Internet is our domain and they can keep the fuck out of our business or face the consequences,” he explained.

“They [IFPI] represent most of the record companies, therefore attacking them represents an attack on all of the people who try to stop websites like The Pirate Bay without really understanding what they are really about,” Mooncus added, noting that AnonNet itself is by no means involved in the attacks.

IFPI was contacted for a response, but we haven’t heard back from them at the time of publication.

Update: IFPI.se is also down.

ifpi.org is back online and so is maqs.com another site that was DDoS'd by the same group.

I am able to connect to their site. Maybe they're still attacking the site.
Also there was more then 250 people attacking the sites early Monday morning.

Hopefully they'll come up with some more constructive plans instead of internet attacks for teh lulz. Even if they plan IRL protest raids it isn't going to make a difference seeing as how secretive the world govs. are with the ACTA.  They don't care about the people who elects them, they only seem to care about corp. greedy entities who donate to them and the big tax dollars they make from them.

No problems connecting here either, although it has been over an hour since your post.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

Mata do you have any data/links to demonstrate these ISPs you have listed actually do block P2P ?

I think its only necessary to embarrass these companies publicly and let folks know who they are rather than send emails, but then I don't pretend to run the internet and I,m sure folks wouldn't listen even if I did.

can't remember where i found this article (part)

A STUDY conducted by a respected German scientific institute found that the big US cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) Comcast and Cox are actively blocking about half of all Peer-to-Peer (P2P) requests practically all the time.
Germany's Max Planck Institute noted a Cnet report that Comcast defended its blocking of BitTorrent P2P traffic to the FCC (pdf) "as a necessary practice that is done only during periods of heavy network traffic."
Observing "It is widely known that network traffic exhibits a strongly diurnal pattern," that is, more active during daytime than nighttime hours, researchers collected and analysed data "to see if hosts in Comcast and Cox networks see fewer of their upstream transfers blocked during early morning or weekends (when network load is generally low) than during other times of the day."
The study findings put the lie to the cable ISP companies' claims that they are only engaging in legitimate 'network management' during periods of 'network congestion' caused by high traffic demand. To the contrary, testing found that cable ISPs blocked BitTorrent upload traffic "independent of the time of day."
The Max Planck Institute collected data between March 18 and May 15 from 8,175 unique hosts that ran its BitTorrent tests. Participating hosts were in 90 countries, connected through 1,224 ISPs, and ran the 'Glasnost' testing tool.
The only locations where cable ISPs blocked BitTorrent traffic to a significant extent were in the United States (Comcast and Cox) and Singapore (Starhub).
Tests showed that Comcast blocked at least 30 per cent of BitTorrent upload attempts and, during most hours, Comcast blocked between 50 to 80 percent of BitTorrent traffic. Cox blocked at least 20 per cent of BitTorrent uploads (except for one period at 3 AM where one request wasn't blocked) and, during most hours, Cox blocked between 50 to 100 per cent of all BitTorrent traffic.
The BitTorrent traffic was blocked, not managed. In its report, the

BT mobile is not the only provider to undertake this action as you point out and also the pirate bay is not the only blocked site, all the sites on the blocking list are those able to deliver porn and other items of content thought unfit for those under 18, whilst I,m in agreement on keeping strong and united we must'nt take things said as "gospel" on some sites when on closer inspection it has nothing to do with anti p2p and more to do with youth protection.

During the Pirate Bay trial Monique Wadsted represented several major movie studios and called for a “very significant” prison sentence for the defendants. This didn’t go down particularly well with some Pirate Bay supporters and now, in a retaliatory move, a few of them have now taken down her law firm’s website.

Taking on The Pirate Bay in court seems to be asking for trouble. A few days ago the IFPI’s website was DDoSed by a group of Pirate Bay supporters. Now MAQS, movie industry lawyer Monique Wadsted’s site, has been targeted and taken down.
