A free upgrade from your ISP sounds like a good thing, but don't be fooled. The Devil is in the detail. Virgin Media are in the process of contacting all their 2 meg UK customers and inviting them to apply for a free upgrade to 10 megs. Take note that they are not just doing it, but inviting their customers to ask for it (a fine legal point there). What they don't mention is that there is also an increase in price. You might well ask, "A price increase on a free upgrade?" Let me explain...... the upgrade is free, but the package has had a price increase simultaneously! That's the official explanation (they kept the price increase very quiet). This wonderful offer has been made available due to technology improvements increasing Virgins capacity by 200% (a statement in their blurb infers that). You look at this amazing capacity improvement and wonder why they have had to bring in a far more severe traffic management policy at the same time (needless to say you have to search that information out as they don't mention that in the upgrade blurb).Anyone wanting to know the new traffic management policy at Virgin can find it at - http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php
