No DNS response
« on: July 12, 2009, 12:02:33 pm »
Hello, I got a problem setting up WinMX on my computer. When I execute the setup-file and reach the connection test, I get a message that "WinMX was unable to make an outgoing TCP connection to it's test servers". I have checked my Internet link up over and over, it is working just fine, and I am not using LAN. I have no idea how to solve this, is it perhaps a Windows safety issue, fx firewall?

My OS is Vista Home Premium SP1, and I use AVG Anti-virus (not free edition)

Please help. Thank you.

The setup-wizard checks for the default ports on winmx to be open, if they're not open it reports this.

You can simply ignore than though and set it up later, this should not keep you from running winmx.
For it to work correctly you do need to make sure the ports are open in your windows firewall though,
have a read through our tutorial section and you migth find some help there :)

With Vista make sure you create a new folder for your incoming file folder
say C:/Download as this will save another common problem with Vista

Actually, this problem IS preventing me from completing the installation wizard. After I get the message, I have a choice between retaking the test with the same result as before, or to use SOCKS proxy for outgoing connections. I've read in the Help section, that almost all users have no use for SOCKS, so I don't know whether or not this is a right thing to do, as I don't know what SOCKS is.
