:(  I can't seem to stay connected to anyone for uls or dls.. I installed the new patch and its worse then ever.. I'm lucky if I stay connected to anyone for a whole min. And the speed is terrible for uls

Windows xp  sp 1
Cable connection
Motorola cable modem
D link DI 624  router.. with dmz on
No firewall
Winmx 3.54 beta 4
and the new patch 1.9

I tried all the other ones.. before and had the same problems..
Ws2_32.dll
Olepro32.dll
Pie patch 2.6

I have changed ports.. I have set up ports in my router.. nothing works.. I stay connected to mx..but not to dl or ul.. its getting extremely frustrating .

This problem only started since mx went down.

Please any suggestion that might help..

thanks

Hi Pinky,

Welcome to the forums.. The patch is not related to how fast your uploads or downloads are.  In fact they have little to no effect on them if your not using a hosts file, and since you have the .dll patch your not effected in that way.

Keep in mind this, our network went from a 1.5 million user network to a much smaller one.  I dont have exact figures myself on the number of us, but its definatly smaller.  Also there are massive amounts of RIAA companies on WinMX trying their best to make us leave...
It wont work btw..

So heres my best advise for you:
Visit this page and set your bandwidth options accordingly.

https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/

Stay with High port numbers like between 48000 and 63000.

Tell all of your friends that listen to music to get back on WinMX and to tell their friends and those tell  thier friends... increasing the Network size is a sure fix for this..

Until then patients is what we need to have, and not to forget this network just told the RIAA where they can stick their shut down threats..
To me that should be reason enough to get folks from other networks to park themselves here and help us keep it going....

Can;t download or upload

I realise that you can't do anything about my speed.. but that wasn't the real issue it was just another fact..

The issue is I can't download and no one can download from me. We don't stay connected. We last about 1 min period.. then it disconnects.
I can hardly ask my friends to join mx if I can't share with them and they can't share with me.

I never had this problem before. Only since we started with the patches and stuff. I have a good connection and I don't have a problem dl ing anywhere else.

Please some good advice ..

thanks

Hey Pinky,
Sorry I didnt mean to trivialize your problem in anyway.

We have lots of folks having slow uploads and downloads right now, and as I mentioned the user base will help that I think.

So let me ask you a few questions if you dont mind.

Does this happen with only a selected few users that you try to upload or download from or is it all of your transfers?

Also it would be of interest to know what cable company your using as many of  them have started filtering WinMX,  some examples include Shaw, Cox, Cablevision, OptimumOnline, just to name a few..and this is a typical sign of  that as well.

thanks..

Hi

its seems to be all uploads from what I can tell rarely does anyone stay connected for more then a couple of mins if that long. The odd download seems to stick now for say 20 mins or so.. I went back to the pie patch 2.6 last night it seems to hold on a little longer.. not much tho..

I use rogers cable. I would be really interested to know if they are filtering mx.. I don't see where they should be allowed to tell me where I can or can't go. Is there somewhere I can check and see if they are?

thanks again

Pinky

Hey Pinky

Well Rogers is definately engaging in filtering and throttleing of your p2p activity..I personally would tell them to sitck thier service .. well.. I would get dsl if its available to you...

Here are some of links and articles I have read for other Rogers users that have this problem...

Northland Cable taps Allot for bandwidth management

Excessive peer-to-peer traffic coursing Northland's networks, particularly in markets serving multiple universities, was affecting Northland's network performance. With Allot's NetEnforcer management system, the MSO said it can now manage P2P traffic and effectively limit aggregate peak bandwidth usage in particular areas.

"NetEnforcer has become an integral part of our data services rollout because it gives us tremendous network efficiency, improves the end-user experience and performance, and saves us money in the process,"

I did not purchase a 5 Mbit connection to check my email or do searches on Google faster, I bought it because I am an extreme/heavy user, hence the name Rogers High Speed Extreme. Rogers’ own advertising contained the line, "Download what you want, when you want!" I did not sign up for a limited service. This really frustrates me because I spent $100 dollars for the “extreme” modem and now Rogers has decided to implement these ridiculous caps.

This is completely beyond me as to why a cable company can get away with charging you for bandwidth then limit it...

Here is what has worked for some folks with WinMX, change your ports WinMX users to high numbers.. usually any number between 58000 and 62000 are good, the problem is many  times its not the port but the bandwidth used that triggers  them to throttle your connection.  So you may have to change these around often to achieve results..

I have seen a few users have good luck with lesser known P2P Networks
Some of the ones are:
Filetopia
Ares
Limewire

If we can help you with anything let me know
