YouTube Fans To see Return Of Warner Music
« on: October 01, 2009, 12:31:55 am »
After throwing a hissy fit some time ago regarding the amount of payment they get from Youtube in terms of royalties and youtube subsequently pulling all Warners copyrighted content, peace seem to have broken out after a deal was struck.

http://www.p2pnet.net/story/29009

Quote
Music videos from Green Day and Metallica will, “begin reappearing on YouTube by the end of the year” says the Los Angeles Times.

That’s because giant online advertising company Google has, “struck an agreement with Warner Music Group,” the smallest of the Big 4 corporate music gang, the other three being Vivendi Universal, EMI and Sony Music.
Warner, still trying to push its Choruss music licensing scheme onto gullible American universities, “will be able to sell advertising surrounding its artists’ work and split the proceeds with the website,” says the story, noting, “The label can also identify its songs on user-created videos, and make money on these videos.”

Lest we forget, among its triumphs, Green Day supplied the music for the Apple / RIAA / Pepsi coalition which pilloried 16 innocent American teenagers, holding them up as copyright criminals and thieves to millions of people attending the 2004 Super Bowl.

I,m sure many people will be happy with this deal but I,m also sure many more will be upset to see the return of big medias cheapo-pop content that will make it once again harder. for independent talent to be noticed.

Well unfortunately that's how life works. You rarely ever get the chance to become "it". Just look stthr number of successful actors or musicians and compare the number of them to the world population.  You NEED something no one else has that attracts people, without that and an actual shot you really are just wasting time waiting for something that might not happen.

Take YouTube as another example, they made a new and popular product that turned into something very popular and a few years later, bingo one billion dollar paycheck.

Don't we all wish we had that kind of idea or talent.

And I suppose investment capital had nothing to do with it eh Josh ?

Most of the folks here have excellent ideas at one time or another but monetising the ideas is another matter, that's why having long terms on things like copyrights and patents is a obscene and anti social thing, in nearly all cases the invention is built upon a previous invention with a small twist to obtain yet another patent, often the test as to whether something is obvious or not  (and thus unpatentable) is not even carried out as otherwise we wouldn't see so many childish patent claims being put forward for what are things that are just minor variations on things we humans have been enjoying for often a long time and in most cases way before any patent was granted.

As for copyright how many times have you heard a tune that has backing beats or tunes that are from another record or sound identical, does anyone really believe that only one person in the whole of humanity's time here could have made that particular melody or beat and thus "own it"

The system is flawed and biased against those who have no capital, that's the real lesson here as even if you had the greatest idea in the world be sure your not alone in that and be also sure you,ll never see it come to fruit because you wont have the finances for making it happen.
