Record Labels Demand $143,000 from Pirate Bay Founders

Say copyrighted music is still accessible on the Swedish BitTorrent tracker site and should therefore be forced to pay the penalty of 500,000 kronor ($71,401 USD) ordered by a judge for refusing to comply.

It was last August that the founders of Swedish BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay were convicted for the facilitation of copyright infringement and ordered to pay some 30 million kronor ($3.6 million USD) in damages to the entertainment industry.

Since they’ve been appealing the ruling mainly on the grounds that two of the judges in the case had in an inherent conflict of interest due to ties with the very record labels and copyright industry groups suing them.

That case won’t be settled by the country’s Supreme Court until February or March of next year pushing back their appeal of copyright infringement charges with the Svea Court of Appeals until next summer at the earliest.
