Not content with annoying millions in France and the UK the copyright maximalists are now pushing for some anti privacy, anti democratic legislation in New Zealand

Today, The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill will be introduced, which repeals Section 92A and replaces it with a “three-notice” regime, backed up by $15,000 fines and 6 month Internet suspensions.
In 2008, the New Zealand Government proposed new legislation to deal with illicit file-sharing. Section92A was the subject of widespread protests which eventually caused the Government to scrap their plans and go back to the the drawing board in order to remove the “guilty upon accusation” elements.
Today, Commerce Minister Simon Power will introduce The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill which will repeal Section 92A and replace it with a modified regime intended to reduce illegal file sharing.
At least in this case folks will be given the right of apeal and be able to challenge the false claims, unlike the bill proposed in the UK but we are still left with the automated methods used by the cartel being used to order folks off the internet with zero proof or oversight in the first instance, perhaps a campaign of driving the recording industry off the net would show them just how unfair such a policy is.
